America With Kibaki? Jendaya calls it ethnic cleansing!

I have said before that I did not think Koffi Annan would achieve anything and I will stick to that prediction. Now, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Africa has declared what went on in the rift valley this way:

“Ms Frazer described the forced removal of members of Mr Kibaki’s Kikuyu tribe, which she witnessed in the eastern Rift Valley region immediately following the election, as “clear ethnic cleansing”. “The aim originally was not to kill, it was to cleanse, it was to push them out of the region.” (Read full article here: Straight talk from America).

The talks with Koffi Annan have now being delayed and I am telling you that Kibaki and the Kikuyu’s who surround him do not trust Raila, they will not work with him and they will never, ever give him even an ounce of power. Raila will have to fight them in parliament and hope he succeeds that way.

Raila was depending on America and Britain to come to his aid, but the violence in the rift valley has destroyed his only chance of ever becoming the president of Kenya. Why did Raila depend on a man who was almost 25 years his junior? William Ruto is young enough to be Raila’s son. Raila should have sought his most crucial advise from more sober minded men within ODM – people like Otieno Kajwang and yes..even Anyang Nyongo. Men like these (Kajwang, Nyongo and Orengo), would have been able to make the case intellectually, that this election was rigged). You don’t have to resort to violence when you have smart people like that within your ranks. Allow them use their minds!

They will be a Luo president in Kenya one day; it’s inevitable (they’re a large tribe, their urbanized, they’re well educated) and Kikuyu’s can’t rule forever; it will happen, it just won’t be with Raila Odinga.

Over to you. What do you think of this stunning statement by Jendaya?

Jendaya’s statement is interesting and has far reaching undertones. She personally visited and spoke with many victim’s of Ruto’s madness so she knows what she’s talking about. I laud her because, despite the negative press reports (courtesy to Salim Lone), she is able to state facts as they really were/are. The first salvo of arrows were released at Ruto’s word, no doubt. Why did he come out the other day to ask the Kale’s to stop the war if he had not initiated it? He knows better.
I am grappling with the modalities the US will use to force its hand. They can only do so with the blessings of Kibaki since he’s the one in power. But what measures will they use? Sanctions? Hardly. Military Intervention? Mmmmm……..I don’t know but it’s a possibility. Museveni’s visit (he has US’ ear in the region), was highly suspect. There must have been other issues discussed and the follow up last week by his deputy could have been related to the US mission.
Another possibility would be to establish regions for particular groups in the Rift Valley. But, again, that may be a long shot.
I concur with you on Raila’s tactics. He needed to use Nyong’o, Orengo to advantage. Look at the team he has crafted for the peace mission. Ruto, Mudavadi, Sally Koskei………what? Where’s Anyang Nyong’o? He comes across as a very thoughtful person and one with great intellect, the kind of person they need in the discussions.

  2. I can’t for the life of me understand why Raila has chosen to align himself so closely with the Kalenjins. These people were in power for 24 years and they completely ruined the country! Why on earth would you want them back???

I was listening to the BBC last night and they interviewed a kalenjin elder in Eldoret and in the interview, he said it in plain Kalenjin {which was then translated into English}and I quote; “it’s a war” – his forthrightness did stun me, I must say, but Kikuyu’s feel the same way I’m sure.

America is not going to intervene militarily (never, ever); they might use the CIA station in Nairobi to help Kibaki if things get out of hand, but I don’t expect to see any U.S. troops.

I’m telling you, once Kibaki sorts out the ethnic make-up within the army, the Kalenjin will see the revenge campaign that will be unleashed against them in the next 5 years.

  3. I think Jendaya is a bit late in reckon that there is clearly ethnic cleansing going on in the Rift Valley, we all knew that! I have been thinking of the best way to stop this (genocide) from ever happening again, the best solution is to make sure that people like Ruto are prosecuted. We saw the same acts of violence unleashed against the kikuyu in 1992, 1997 and now 2007. As bad as retribution is, everybody knew the Kikuyu’s would reitariate this time around. In order to stop politicians from using tribalism as a ticket to power, all peace loving Kenyans should agitate for on independent investigation on who is funding, instigating and organizing the ongoing genocide ( I will not be suprised if Ruto’s name comes up), it’s time the so called leaders realized that they are in parliament to represent the wananchi and not themselves. This would send a clear message on all future aspiring politicians that their is a price to pay for inciting ethnic cleasing.

Kenya is for everyone and no one should fear living in any corner of the country.

The words used by that Elder were exactly the same used by Ruto; to stop the war. The Kalenjins are shouting loudest that they’ve been marginalized to the extent of starting a war! yet for 24 long years they looted and simply raped the economy of our country. Every time I recall those dark Moi days, my blood runs cold, and to see people like Ruto chest thumping that they will not relent nor surrender you fail to see what’s driving him other than naked greed and ambition. For Raila to be in cahoots with him, it means there’s a commonality between them. Dangerous duo if anyone asks me.

The end of the current crisis will be interesting because there will either be losers who will be hounded out of town, or Kenya will astonish and surprise by rising out of the ashes miraculously.

I still believe the real solution lies with Kenyans. The playing field is level but all tribes can’t be equal because each is gifted differently. The Kalenjins earn megabucks running, the Luo/Luhyia are great soccer players. We need to develop professional soccer to the level of South Africa where players are the real bosses who earn good money. Maasais are our cultural ambassadors and there should be more money remitted to them through Masai Mara/Amboseli. The Kambas and the Kikuyus have coexisted for centuries and each knows what to do. The Somalis control a huge chunk of our economy in Nairobi. The Mijikenda have their Mombasa Raha down there and ways must be established how they can reap the benefits.

The point I’m trying to make is that we can all coexist peacefully and there’s no need for jealousy, envy, malice. Each tribe has a God given gift. We just need to work together as Kenyans and harness those talents.

    KE AND EVERYONE ELSE,

You are all wondering why RAILA has chosen to “team” up with the kalenjins yet they were in power for 24 years.

You are also wondering why he didn’t choose more “eminent” persons to do the negotiations on behalf of ODM, AS HE CHOSE rUTO, mUDAVADI AND kOSGEY.

One thing you guys REALLY, and I repeat REALLY need to understand is that RUTO stil calls many shots in ODM.

This guy besides being a big financial contributor, the guy delivered Rift Valley for ODM By a landslide, plus he proved MOI to be irrelevant in Rift Valley Politics.

I’m not surprised that RUTO would be the one who decided himself, Mudavadi and Kosgey to be in the talks.

The reason is simple, RUTO is lookin out for himself, he knows he’s in deep danger and he has to be at the forefront of any major decision making process so as to secure safety for himself.

It’s like robbing or killing s’one and never being discovered. Yet when the authorities launch an investigation to apprehend the guy who committed the crime, you volunteer yourself to head the commitee that way getting first hand info on the developments.

RUTO also knows Mudavadi does not have much substance in him unlike orengo or Nyongo who are their own men, yaani yu can’t sit on these guys.

He probably figures Kosgey would be easier to manipulate since she’s Kale too.

U guys have to remember that RUTO was the ODM MP who was screaming at the new ODM MP’s when they were casting their vote for the house speaker.

Is he running the show then? If so, then his method of doing business will soon be a huge liability to him.

The statement by Dr. Frazer is quite telling. The US has also suggested that the Office of War Crimes Issues will be looking into the ethnic cleansing issue and make a recommendation to the government.
If you are not familiar with this office, ask any former Nazi or look up its website.

    Over to you William Ruto.

This myth that Kikuyus would never vote for a Luo has been used for years to prevent politicians who apeal to everyone from rising to the top. Raphael Tuju is vilified in Nyanza primarily because he has National apeal and would be a threat in Nyanza.
On Ruto, he was part of the criminals who orchestrated Kenya’s 10 year runnaway inflation when as part of Moi’s 1992 re-election team, they printed incredible amounts of money. The guy is no guilty of genocide and unless he is arrested very soon, someone whose relatives were murdered due to his orders or financing, might decide to have a “chat” with this genocidal meniac.

  9. Anyone interested in REAL peace and reconciliation must
realise first, that both sides have been involved in
ethnic cleansing. I’m reading a lot of comments about
arresting ruto, and hardly anything about mungikis antics
over the weekend, some witnesses even say they were
actively helped by the police. Who financed them?

Shouldn’t they also be arrested and held accountable?

  10. I am deeply saddened by the wake of events after the election. We have lost soo many lives and it now seems that the people who started all this are unable to stop. Its a pity that somethings happen just as we watch them in broad day light. I feel sick to my stomach if i imagine all the innocent kids and women burning because someone thinks they are in the wrong place and they should have been born in another place.Lets all respect human rights and stop these genocide….it happened in Rwanda …we should have learnt our lessons by now….it can also happen in kenya

Let Jendavi give you guys G Caards na mukwende stato.. What she says is nonesense. If one community thinks that a person from another community can never rule then why should we be a one country.. let kikuyus rule themselves. and not colonize others..( if anyone can rule no matter from what tribe then its ok to settle anywhere in Kenya otherwise )

We have to stop this menace and we should stop it srom the source. We have to make sure that after this bloodshed, 1992,1997 and 2008 ethnic cleansing in the Rift will be history.

We have to make sure that our children will own property anywhere in Kenya without threats of community cleansing. Our constitution must change! The masters of these wars must be brought to book and to Jail. Many like ruto have been mentioned in all the three tribal clashes/cleansing. They must be judged and punished. We must discourage politicians from using tribalism to divide Kenya or for votes.

We must also empower our people, so they know how to fend for themselves and how to see oportunities grab then and prosper. We must have culture and attitude of personal development. Thats the only day we will stop looking at our neighbours with envy.

Martha Karua tried to tell the world of the Ethnic cleansing early in January, but they all looked down upon her, they were litsening to the very loud ODM claims and supporting them. Their discovery is too late, and what are they going to do now that they have discovered ths?????

kenyans lets not cheat ourselves and blame only ruto, yes he might have had a hand, but who ordered the shoot to kill in odm strongholds? i beliv you all know, and who is funding mungiki gangs now? the good thing with mungiki is that wen it is done with the election problems and there is peace in kenya,it will start beheading kikuyus in muranga and kiambu,so am now using a saying,WEN YOU DIG A GRAVE FOR A FREND,DONT DIG IT TOO DEEP,YOU MIGHT BE THE ONE TO GO IN.

I keep hearing that Ruto is responsible for the ethnic cleansing in RV. Where is the evidence guys? I have not heard him saying go kill kyuks. Is it because he rendered Moi irrelevant or you think he did it because he delivered RV to Raila. It would have happened even if Ruto was not in the picture. That is just how Kales are they even killed thier own who were PNU supporters because they felt betrayed. They are easy going but they sting like bees when they are crossed. Why do you think Moi had a firm grip on Kenya for 24 years? He never even spared his own people when they crossed the line. Kibaki also comitted the same crime you are accusing Ruto of by ordering police to shoot to kill in ODM strongholds. They were only expecting the luos to act up they didn’t expect the whole country to rise up.The whole of Kale land broke out in wails and screams when Too was assasinated. If Ruto is assinated Kenya will have to be devided. We have to remember that Kales are not the only ones who are anti kibaki other tribes will join them and the military and un peace keepers will be the only ones who will be able to handle it. Kibaki and Raila will be irrelavant. Some one we do not even know off will be the president of Kenya.

After 24 yrs of Moi’s rule and you say that kales are colonized by kuiks? Propaganda, rumors, sychopancy , threats and chest thumping are what ODMers do best!Ruto will be taken out. War might break out and that’s a better option because we can solve this problem once and for all. Whoever wins gets the spoils of war but don’t think even for one moment that we fear your threats issued on this blog!
