Why am I posting this video of a guy with a weird name? because he founded a company in 1997 that is now the single largest clothing manufacturer based in the United States (& that’s what makes him unique – he is making a profit without manufacturing in China).

I keep seeing these unique products coming out of Kenya today and I keep wondering why these designers and artists aren’t interested in breaking out of the Kenyan/East African market by trying to sell their products in the west. The question is: how successful can you become by selling in markets in Africa that have tiny and in some cases, no middle class?

So, listen to Charney and learn about retailing and how to sell goods in the largest consumer market in the world.

NB: you’ll need to forward the video to get to the Charney interview (trust me, you don’t want to listen to that neo-conservative nutcase looney called Fouad Ajami)
