Green Business Idea’s (For Kenya)
I was reading a copy of a magazine that I have emailed to me every month and it contained some interesting business
idea’s that might be of interest to people in Kenya or people thinking of moving back to Kenya to work for themselves.
The first idea is this company that has developed a single-use toilet bag that turns human waste into fertilizer. This is a product that could easily be used in one of Kenya’s many slums and if it’s something you are interested in exploring, you can read about it here and contact the company that makes this product to find out how it could be used in Kenya.
The second idea involves using cow dung to make bricks. It turns out that cow dung can be used to make bricks, which are greener, stronger and lighter than regular clay bricks and you can read more about this idea here.
The other thing I’m seeing is the use of gunia material to make all sorts of things, from handbags, to lamp shades, to shoes…etc, etc…
So, the next time you go to a market in Kenya, you may want to either collect or buy a whole bunch of gunia’s and figure out how to use them to create a whole variety of products.
The things people look down upon in Kenya (cow dung, gunia’s, etc, etc) are the things the people in the west are now moving towards. They’re eco-friendly! I’ve even started seeing those mswati toothbrushes in organic health stores. You know the one’s your grand-mother used to chew? they’re in vogue here.
What other eco-friendly products do you see in Kenya that could be utilized, but that are being thrown away?
The first person who should have come to mind and whom you should have sent this to is the member of Parliament, Langata Constituency (Kibera.
This is a sure way he would deal with the flying toilets issue!
KE,
It’s Mswaki not “Mswati” Geez.
Good idea’s though.
anonymous,
Who could be driving a h-1 / h-2 hummer today and cares about the environment..Raila doesn’t give a shit about going green.
pimpin curly,
I was about to correct it but I though Ke Would say its a typo. I was like..what’s “mswati” ?
KE,
So how much cow poop do u need to do a 3-bd house? Is it in abundant supply?
Mwalimu,
Now why are you asking me about cow poop. My assumption is that cows, like human beings, shit everyday so yes, there should be an abudant supply of cowdung.
It’s Mswaki? okay. Be grateful I didn’t call it the African bush toothbrush.
Good Ideas. This is what Kenyans should embrace
