Gangster Capitalism
I don’t know when Kenyan politicians will stop getting fooled by these Indian barron Robbers. This time, an Indian by the name of Yagnesh Devani is behind the Triton/KPC/KCB theft. Then, as is the case with all these Indians, Devani has fled the country and this is where the story begins to become hilarious.
Kiraitu Murungi now wants interpol to help the government find this fellow. The hilarious part begins when Kiraitu goes on to mention that he expects the Attorney Generals office to prosecute this case. Yup — Amos “never prosecute” Wako is once again being asked to do something that he has never, ever, done in his 30 years of being the Attorney General in Kenya.
**btw — Amos Wako is worth about $100 million dollars (yes, dollars). This information was given to me by a banker in New York who was tasked with managing Wako’s accounts.
I’ve wondered here before, where all this money in Kenya is coming from and each time Ive raised this issue, I’ve ended up with a few naysayers who remain convinced that Kenya actually has a real economy. So, I’ll say it here again: something about that economy is not adding up.
My current train of thought on this issue is as follows:
The government is being fleeced from so many places that I have no idea where they’re getting the money to do anything. I know some of it is coming from taxes, but taxes alone cannot cover the rampant corruption that is currently taking place and the obscene salaries that this grand implosion government is now sucking in.
I know that the “official” inflation rate of 30% is going to have to go up (believe it or not) because at some point, Ndungu is going to have to print money to support this gangster capitalist society. Right now, they’re running a deficit, which is going to get higher and higher as they struggle to find the money to fund this grand implosion fantasy for the next 4 years.
So, then, if the public’s money (i.e. taxes) is not being used to improve the things that will actually create a real economy (e.g. expanding electricity across the country, building roads, improving telecommunications, etc, etc) — if taxes are not going towards projects like these, that means that any hope of creating a manufacturing base will be greatly diminished — and without a semblance of a manufacturing base, vision 2030 will remain a pipe dream.
I keep asking myself this one question and I’m not coming up with any answers. The question is this:
What are these people who supposedly have all this money… what are they producing? what are they making?
All economies can be explained by answering these two questions. You either make something or if you don’t make anything, you have to be able to extract that something from the ground. Examples follow:
I remember asking this question to a group of people and one answer I received was that Kenya made sufuria’s.
And I don’t want people getting all emotional about this question. I know you all love your country, but what the hell are these negroes making?
KE,
U ask what these moneyed elite are making to account for the massive wealth ? it’s a simple reality, they make deals. Devani made deals, wako makes deals and as such never prosecutes any case, he must be the most useless AG ever to have that title, but I’m sure he’s a valuable asset to the ruling class coz he lets em get away with everything with his annoying grinning smile everytime he talks.
BTW KE,
I see why now these wahindis Love kenya so much. Kenya affords them the possibility to own Five Million pounds home in the UK.
I think there is a silver lining if we allow this stolen money to be re invested back home instead of lying somewhere hidden if foreign banks. Imagine if all that money moi and his colleagues stole came back to kenya inform of investments?
I don’t get it. What of the faces behind the deals. devani is just the ‘face’ the powers behind him are:
- wako (KE says he is worth at least $100,000,000)
- murungi (have we forgotten anglo-fleecing)
- odinga family (I am not sure but I would not be surprised)
- okungu (he knew, oh yes, he knew since 2006)
You are blaming the ‘face’ & not the real powers behind the scandal
Also… how do you know the story of devani’s lavish lifestyle is not a distraction. Basically, let devani take the blame so the real culprits get away.
Why was devani allowed to leave the country when the scandal was already known to government insiders?
BECAUSE, devani was simply the fall guy!!!
Where is devani? In India. Where is raila? In India.
CT
Indeed, is it possible that Raila, Ruto and Mudavadi are in India to share the loot with this Devani?
I knew ODM was a sham – eti change! Can you imagine what they could have done if they were in government on their own?
KE
It is basicaly YOU who always says !!! Economy grew under Kibaki …Explain what was extracted or manufactured!!!
I agree with you 100% .an economy grows by
Exports & Exports & Exports…
SECONDLY
DO NOT VILIFY the Indians…They are used as a FRONT just like CT said….The problem is the NEGRO….
ANOTHER problem is KENYA DOES NOT BELONG TO ANYBODY…….ITS A BASTARD COUNTRY CREATED BY LOOTERS IN BERLIN 1885!!!
How do you expect an artificial punching bag to do anything…….
When i suggest we curve this country into fedral regions (owned by specifics) you SHOUT NO NO NO!!!! only beacuse your ethnic comiteenity (owns a small region) and are basically the beneficiaries of all THEFT……..
SHOOT STRAIGHT ……What do Kikuyus do with all the ILL GOTEN MONEY…..
Women
Alcohol
Nyama Choma
This is the same for all thiefs of all comunities….
SOLUTION
Federate(creating a sense of ownership)
OR
Loot till it Crushes then Federate
@ Lord you have nailed it… hongera for some common sense here…
Adding onto your comment, it is a wonder that we (Africans) conveniently turn a blind eye to the real devils i.e. the establishment, yes all the way back from the fifties where they were handed the reigns of the country (a figment of imagination as you have eloquently put).
Nothing can be done without the signatory of the establishment, all the way to the top.
Let us stop being juveniles and stop barking at the wrong trees… for heavens sake we have so called intellectuals believing this hog wash, we are the problem, we keep electing the same thugs and spend every time in between yelling and screaming about grand corruption and thuggery? yes, the problems is not so hard to identify, for its plain and simple the negro… do we really have the capacity to run anything well?
Its quite heartening to note that we Africans (special attention to Kenyans) are quick to moaning, whining and pointing fingers at just about the rest of the world (for some on this blog it is pathetically down to tribal finger pointing!), while cringing at the thought of confronting our own leaders who intentionally keep us broke, hungry and poorly informed (that does not apply to the beneficiaries)….
My prediction is as follows; before the region can really make any progress a real catastrophe will occur and the downtrodden (African underclass) will violently rise and take the helm of leadership, taking the region to its real destination…
Can we have another Mfecane please?
Hi KE:
As much as we want to blame Indians, its not that simple. Indians are just used as a front to what is happening in this country. Its always easy to play that card to the audience. Unfortunately, even the locals in Kenya don’t trust their own, and have a cadre of other races doing the dog work for them. The real culprits are our politicians – i would say out of all the cabinet ministers,Preso, VP. PM etc none of them are clean, NONE!!! As for the MPs, I would say majority are corrupt to the bone, they just use the legislature as a way to enrich themselves.
Have you ever seen any of these leaders really care about any Kenyan? How can a country like Kenya which has one of the most fertile land in the world, facing a famine and its people are looking at starvation? And our politicans are killing our own people, instead of putting the money to develop farm land, infrastructure etc, they start selling land to foreigners and import food from overseas. How is this all possible?
As for the economy, KE you are absolutely correct, how is it possible for this country to survive when there is really nothing be made in Kenya? What’s really driving this economy, and how much of its a lie to the public? Sooner or later Kenya will go the Argentina way, it will be bankrupt, and thanks to all the scandals, we might just reach the destination faster then we think!
Only a revolution in Kenya can save us from this debacle. This whole issue boils down to the kind of leadership we appoint, and unfortunately none of the current crop have the right credentials – for them its “eat till its never enough”.Unfortunately, our society has been “tuned” to such behavior that it is entrenched also into the private sector, and throughout the society. We shower these political “idiots” when we should be throwing them to the “lions”.
If we as Kenyans really don’t do anything to stop these politicians, then the only left in Kenya will be skeletons, our people will become the vultures. We must become the hunters, and not the hunted, if we are to change this country and put it back on its right track, otherwise the consequences are very dire…..
Do we have leaders in kenya who can stand up and bring real change to this country and make a difference?
KE, from business articles, it seems Kenya’s key resource is her people – mainly business entrepreneurs. We also have the regional infrastructure, which is not just physical – our people trade more within Africa than most other African countries in the region. If you are looking to penetrate the African market, Kenya is an attractive starting point. The good news (see Bankelele) is that KQ continues to expand regional reach, so in addition to rail and road, we have air. It took 2 years work to get to the point where Kenya signed the free skies agreement with the US. I guess that makes Kenya similar to Singapore, just with a different set of skills.
lord?
You are an example of the sickness that kenya has became as clearly demonstrated by the post-election violence….Blame a luo/kyuk.To you the kcb/kpc/triton issues goes down to kikuyus…devani, raila and kiraitu are not kyuks . What a pinhead you are?
Its the culture of corruption and nonproductivity we’re discussing here?
I am not just blaming Indians. I understand that in a system such as kenya’s, they can’t act alone. However, I’m just perplexed as to why these politicians keep relying on them? Surely, they can steal without using the Indians? who have a habit of fleeing the country and never facing justice.
Respondent:
I see what you are saying about Kenya’s educated populace and in fact, one of my friends brought this issue up while we were having a dinner discussion. He said that educated Kenyans LEAVE the country for greener pastures and in fact, has become one of Kenya’s main exports! This is the difference between Kenya and Singapore. The Singaporeans will remain in their country because their intellectual property rights will be protected by the law.
Think of it this way: If you are a smart, well educated Kenyan scientist, are you going to remain in Kenya and come up with an invention and then, file a trademark for that invention at a government office? You’d be crazy to do that because you know that someone will steal your invention and try to make money off it.
This is why gangster economies are so dangerous — without the protection of law, the educated will not invent or create. They will leave and invent elsewhere — in places where their creations will be protected and where they can benefit monetarily from their inventions.
What I see happening in Kenya is a country that is literally going to go broke because of two main factors:
1) The coalition government is chewing up 80% of the country’s taxes (and)
2) The rampant corruption is further depleting the country’s meager resources.
What the government seems to be doing so far is borrowing. However, at some point, even this is not going to be enough. They can’t keep borrowing for the next 4 years.
Some of that money needs to go into investments that will allow the economy to start producing REAL things. At this point, I don’t see this happening because they are borrowing, not for investment purposes, but rather, to pay the obscene salaries of these politicians.
On KQ:
I don’t understand why KQ is continuing to expand. They need to focus on improving their safety record. One more accident and they are done.
If you don’t punish one thief then other people see this and want the same kisanja…
This is just a tip of the Iceberg, my contacts inform me that all Ministers and tribal chiefs are mired in the grandest corruption scandals… Which a bilking the Innocent Kenyans….
I agree with Ken Thumbi…. There is a major troubles ahead… I think Kenya will end up with a dictator after the revolution …. Guinea style !!!
I only pray that God will help us get out of this safely… honestly i believe without Gods help Kenyans are in for very tough times ahead..
Lord… with the negro? Get over yourself already. Move to Puntland if you want a taste of what you’re advocating for Kenya.
The saga continues: Mrs Jacinta Ochieng, Kenya Pipeline’s public relations manager says: “We have a policy. We don’t talk to the media.”
What then is her work?

Hilarious: KE starts with Kenyan Asians; Lord takes it to the next level by scape-goating both Gikuyu and then, finally, all black people. Really
DW: Is that the kanu flag?
I mean seriously… How does a party choose a cock for a symbol? With an axe? LOL…
KE has a beef with Kenyan Asians (or even Indians in the USA) but fails to see that they are part of the brainwashing as almost any other Kenyan. My awakening came while I was studying in the USA.
I hate dan ‘the reviled’ moi but he was a political genius. He knew how play people/tribes/individuals against each other.
kamlesh pattni is his creation. pattni was aided by kotut, saitoti & kulei (both moi’s personal appointments). pattni could not have done anything without moi’s consent. So pattni the mhindi became public enemy #1 (pattni DID benefit as well… no doubt) but who remembers kotut? and kulei?
(moi’s banker a mohammed aslam supposedly died under mysterious circumstances. moi sure knew how to use, abuse & discard the mhindis. MA’s body was to be taken to pakistan for ‘burial’ & an autopsy but the family was not allowed to do so. dead men tell no tales. buried bodies give no information.
moi also neutralised Raila. Completely.
kibaki was a mole to break up the opposition (led by charles rubia & matiba among others in the early 1990s). The kikuyu vote would have gone to matiba in 1992 but kibaki engineered the ‘split’. Brilliant.
kibaki was never for change (remember mugumo trees & razor blades?) He was to bide his time like moi did after kenyatta. So kibaki & moi split the opposition.
moi in turn deliberately sabotaged kanu/ndp & gave kibaki the presidency in 2002 by fronting uhuru (an unknown) knowing well that raila would have won convincingly under the kanu/ndp alliance.
moi betrayed the cause of an opposition in the 1960s when KADU was merged into KANU. The ‘reformers’ were eliminated. The gentlemanly & patriot Joseph Murumbi (btw, he was Indian+Masaai) was sidelined. Oginga Odinga was sidelined then detained. Pio Gama Pinto was shot dead. Even a Kikuyu who did not agree with kanu (JM Kariuki) was killed. And don’t forget Fred Kubai & Achieng Oneko.
No one has answered the key question yet:
What are these people making?
What is kenya producing?
I await your answers….
Kenya is producing a whole lot of gossip …. apart from this I don’t think there is any other product we export which can match this…
We don’t have the main resources needed to build a serious civilization…. So all we need to do right now is or should be based more on what we have…
So the question is … what do we have…. We have a lot of human resources… Instead of using these precious resources in gossiping… Kenyans need to educated themselves and expand their service sector….
India has done this well Kenyans need to follow suit..
Yes, it’s the old KANU flag.
DW: I don’t think they have changed it… but seriously, what idiot picked a cock with an axe as the symbol?
Kenya is a banana republic. 8o% of the goverments budget goes to keeping the goverment going. Do you understand what that means? its called a banana republic in other words.
This is the wikipedia definition of a banana republic: Tell us if Kenya qualifies under this definition.
Banana Republic is a pejorative term for a country that is politically unstable, dependent on limited agriculture (e.g. bananas), and ruled by a small, self-elected, wealthy, and corrupt clique.
In some cases, these nations have kept the government structures that were modeled after the colonial ruling clique, with a small, largely leisure class on the top,and a large, poorly educated and poorly paid working class of peons, though it might have the (fake) trappings of modernity (such as styling itself a republic with a president etc.)
Frequently the subject of mockery and humour, and usually presided over by a dictatorial military junta that exaggerates its own power and importance—”the epaulettes of a banana republic generalissimo” are proverbially of considerable size, usually portrayed in satire with a pair of mops—a banana republic also typically has large wealth inequities, poor infrastructure, poor schools, a “backward” economy, low capital spending, a reliance on foreign capital and money printing, budget deficits, and a weakening currency. Banana republics are typically also highly prone to revolutions and coups.
I think Kenya partly qualifies as being a banana republic. Since the 1990s, we have been on a downward trend. Let me paraphrase the definition of what a banana republic is:
Kenya fits here very well, thank you!
Still a fairly accurate description of Kenya …
OK, admittedly, Kenya has not gotten to such a sorry state but who knows?
All these is true of Kenya except the part about revolutions and coups but what about post-election violence? Isn’t that a direct path towards revolutions and coups?
