God Save The Queen
I was watching the BBC news and saw Tony Blair’s resignation process and I was utterly astounded! As soon as Blair officially resigned, all trinkets of power ceased being bestowed upon him. It was utterly amazing!
You see Blair walking through the train station, carrying his own bag and waiting to take the train to his constituency. They’re a couple of policemen around him and a few aides, but nothing like you’d see in Kenya. Also, the people at the train station are just going about their business! They weren’t surrounding him asking for autograph’s and silly things like that. Wow!
Then, they showed Blair waiting for a car to come pick him up. As they’re waiting for their car, a new slick BMW rolls up and Blair walks towards it to open the door, but oops! that’s not the car for him. An aide directs him to a simple red volkswagon, driven by a lone man.
I couldn’t help but contrast this to the disgusting perks that were handed out to Moi as a “retirement gift” when he resigned or even the disgusting perks that MP’s of a third world country like Kenya have handed themselves.
Now, I’m sure Blair will have some security personnel around him paid for by the state & maybe his pension that’s been prescribed by a government salary grade level, but that’s it!
Africans are truly, truly, messed up.
KE, UK and Kenya can’t be compared. One is a 600 yr old+ democracy and longer as a nation, the other is 100yr old creation and under 10yrs of democracy.

Ok – I’ll give you that, but African leaders need to practice self-restraint, especially in countries with such high rates of poverty. Look at how Julius Nyerere led his life. It can and should be done! Being a new democracy should not constrain you from being disgustingly greedy.
