Jambalaya Mix: Condoleeza, Babawatoto.com & Other Issues…

There’s nothing major happening on the ground in Kenya at the moment.  I know Condoleeza Rice was there on Monday, but I doubt much will come from her trip.  These guys (Bush et al.) are leaving office in one year’s time and they are downright exhausted.  How do I know this? I’ve read about 8 books on the Bush presidency and there is one constant theme that comes up in all these books and the theme is this: The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have totally drained them and these guys can’t wait to get the hell out of the White House.

In good times, the presidency is a demanding and stressful job, but for Bush and Cheney, the disastrous war in Iraq has become the central focuse of their co-presidency and Kenya, a poor third world country in Africa, is just NOT a top priority for them. Yes, they are concerned about terrorism in the horn of Africa and yes, they need Kenya to remain stable for this reason, but they’re not going to suspend aid to Kenya or even force Kibaki to do anything he doesn’t want to do. Condoleeza can say what she wants in public, but in private, these people are winding down and getting ready to leave office.

So, having said that, I want to move on for now and talk about an entrepreneurial venture that a guy calling himself “Kip” wanted this blog to hear about (He is furiously trying to promote his business babawatoto.com and he left like 4 links on this site so I told him I’d give him a special mention just so he’d stop link baiting me   ).

So, while we wait for important news out of Kenya, let’s all check out Kip’s new business site and tell him what we think.  Have you used it? Would you use it? It looks like another off-shoot of Mamamikes, but he swears it’s different.

What do you think about all these on-line Kenyan sites anyway? Why use them and pay delivery charges when you can just as easily send cash to your relatives and let them buy what they want from Uchumi or elsewhere?

Okay.  Tell “Kip” what you think since you (Kenyans in the disapora) are his target customer base (& please no abusive comments on this time.  I prefer to reserve those for public officials).   I just want to know whether you use these on-line stores on a frequent basis.

hey KE … thanks for the mention i Well its about time kenyans engaged more on e-trade. I Find it hard that even kenyans abroad still have a phobia to e-commerce with kenya! mamamikes has tried and i think lots of people need to come on board and help this ventures suceed..

having said that I appreciate you keeping your end of the “bargain” WE obviousy dont see eye to eye politically but i think we have more in common than differences…

  5. Kip:

Didn’t I tell you to go slow with those links?

Is that entertainment site another business of yours?

I’m really curious to see how your business progress. Keep me updated on how things are going. Internet businesses are ahead of their time for Kenya because so few people have access to the net, but now is the time to start them because internet access will keep growing.
