No Way In Hell Kibaki Will Agree To This
Finally, some news is beginning to trickle out about what ODM is looking for in it’s talks with the government. There’s no way in hell Kibaki is going to agree to these stipulations, which are:
I don’t think Koffi Annan fully grasps the historical roots of Kenya’s current crisis. I don’t think he understands the players involved (both on the government side and on the opposition side) and at this point, Kibaki needs to find a way to spare Annan the public embarrassment and allow him to leave the country gracefully (I have no idea what Graca Machel and Mkapa are doing or why they were even invited).
Kibaki should just confront Raila and Ruto head on and dare them to go back to the streets. After the coalition with ODM-K, parliament is now evenly divided and Raila knows it (his dreams of having this “super” majority in parliament were destroyed when Kalonzo switched sides).
What is Raila going to do now? dare his supporters to keep fighting with bows and arrows? It’ll be tougher this time because the element of surprise is now gone; People will be better prepared to defend themselves.
Never in a million years will Kibaki allow someone like William Ruto in his government.
Looks like Kisumu is getting back to normal. If you were a Kikuyu business owner, would you go back to Kisumu? I’ve been saying that the problem is not Luo’s in Kisumu (they don’t have a warrior culture); The danger is with the Kalenjins in the rift valley.

i concurr. after all what other ‘weapon’ does the odm have? (or is their an unseen trick up their sleeves?)
the one vital element missing in the odm calculations is the other half of the country that supported the current government. things would be very different if it was the entire country against kibaki & company.
for now, the men on the hill (illegal or otherwise) will simply bide their time and offer all sorts of promises as day-to-day realities slowly push the balance back to ‘normalcy’.
as for the parliamentary majority, the powers of the executive and historical inefficiencies leave quite some room for manouvre.(no new laws may be needed for economic growth) what remains is the squeeze on government budgets, with all the pains that involves for everyone.
KE,
Kibaki will never agree to any power sharing arrangement; on other hand ODM will not hear anything less of controlling half of the govt. These peace talks will collapse as soon as next week .
My issue with these talks is that they are meant to appease the politicians without adressing the fundamental issues like poverty, economic inequality, tribalism and class. Kenya have experience ” false ‘ peace for the last 40years because of strong dictators ( Moi and Kenyatta) . Africans have to fight to agree; Kenya is going down this way and no peace talks will prevent this. It will start as tribal war ( Kenya VERSUS others ) before it becames class war ( rich vs the poor ) . So my dear friends tighten your safety belts ready for war. We have many AFRICA countries which have gone this way hence we wont be exceptional ( Uganda, Rwanda, somali , Angola, Nigeria, Chad ,CAR, CONGO, do i continue

Another senior opposition official, Najib Balala, said ODM was becoming “impatient” and would consider other options given international pressure has not swayed Kibaki.
“The only thing they can listen to is the power of the people and I think that power needs to be revived,” he said, also hinting at an ethnic isolation of Kibaki’s Kikuyu group, whose homeland is the central highlands.
“If negotiations are not working, then we change the terms of reference of negotiations of discussing boundaries and reducing them to an island like Lesotho.”
NJOROGE,
U are right when u say the peace talks are meant to appease politicians. It’s never been about kenya’s people, but it’s about Raila and Ruto’s insatiable lust for power.
Balala making comments like this is really surprising. why make such comments in public ? this will only give the government time to prepare and deal with the sitaution comprehensively.
Raila is really dreaming ..ati PM Post and two deputy PM posts?….ha ha why do u need a deputy PM? Why in the world do u need 2 deputy PM’s??
where will the budget for this come from ?
these guys are dreaming.
and this mamabo of foreigners jetting in for half a day and prescribing the solution then jetting out as if they are the flying doctor service- does not work, will not work in kenya!
I mean Condi Rice should not realistically expect that coz she’s the US. secy of state, that her word is final. I mean these high level U.S. and european emissaries need to undertsand the real personalities, history and issues behind PNU and ODM.
It’s not a simple affair of landing in and out of a country and expecting to have the solution. I agree Kibaki will never share power with RUTO.
and this post with the kisumu trader, I saw it on NTV and speaks volumes.
This guy basically said that they’ve gone back to their businesses and that business was good. He said it was now up to raila and kibaki to sort things out.
This is what people begun doing, going on with their lives. I mean if yu were a Luo in kisumu , you’d have wanted Raila to be prezzo, but adfter expereiencing the violence, your main prority would be the safety of yourself and family.
This guy looks like he had it going well before the elections and now he went back to that life.
Mzeiya,
Our problem is Kibaki , Raila and co ; the solution should come from Wanaichi themselves not politicians. These politicians are only interested with positions only .
NJOROGE,
But Wananchi are not the ones at the negotiating table.
I believe the only way wananchi can do this is by totally ignoring retrogressive calls by these selfish politicians, eg these guys calling for more protests…
ODM Have already lost the mandate to call for more protests.
NJOROGE,
The more ODM & the likes of Balala shout & incite, the more Kenyans everywhere are losing interest in what they have to shout about. I really hope that Kenya is special & will not follow the paths of other African countries, reason being though we are in Africa, Kenya is different in many ways. Many countries depend on us & cannot afford to see us go down the drain that easily.
ODM can shout, huff & puff all they want – Ruto has to be arrested & done for genocide so that the Kales will think twice about killing fellow Kenyans in future – in fact perhaps I’m wrong & Islamic Sharia may just help us. Sharia will deal nicely with thugs like Ruto – public stonings, hangings, shooting are just a few of the options for criminals behind genocides like Ruto.
Balala should be dealt with in his own terms. If there’s any talk of an Island, he should be it being an Arab from Yemen in the midst of Kenyans. Sheikh Balala Sheikh Balala Wakati wako sasa! he sang with ululating women upon winning his Mvita seat……..well……
Kenya will weather the storm but violent shaking is coming. The Kalenjin are talking of the “coming war”. With vast experience gained from 92, 97, 02 and 07, and with vast sums of money STOLEN blatantly from Kenyans, they seem way ahead but objects in the mirror are closer than they seem.
e ODM guys must be done Saddam way…..i’ll b willin to put e rope….to Ruto’s neck without being paid a single cent
The problem is that the stakes are High, especially if ODM are not in the Government and they kinow it too well. If they dont get it they might end up in jail. It started yesterday with their Kingpin and it may soon include some of them. They just want political amnesty. Thats all. But i think we have to live at a time whetre theres a similar constitution for the poor and the rich. If they fund violence they be jailed, or even hanged if the Law finds them guilty.
Crooks will be calling for mass action not to pay rent, mass action to grab other peoples property, mass action to loot, mass action to spear their neighbours, Kibaki should end this madness alias “mass action”. Let everyone [pay for their sins first, ten we will be on our way to national reconciliation. Period. I dont care whether they are inPNu or ODM. You can only be in government if you dont support government and mass action. Who will pay their salaries if these landlords dont have money to pay taxes that the KRA so demand to pay for the hefty salaries of these MPs, Its too late to call for mass action. They have been overtaken by events, and Koffi annan is in a quagmire.
Leoedd;
Whatever the reasons ODM might have, or any ultra motives for being in govt. don’y you think it might actually be beneficial if there is a coalition? Don’t get me wrong, i totally disagree in the way we came to be in this mess, but i am willing to be naive and give the coalition a chance. Lets see if this greedy politicians can actually muster enough brains to come up with something for Kenya, if they work together. Lets get an overhaul of the old thinking, a free judiciary, a constitution that’s inclusive of all regardless of physical or spiritual atributes. If it’s going to take ODM and PNU to share the same govt. for Kenya to survive, so be it.

I’m just worried about where all this prime minister talk is going… Kibaki and Raila may “share power” now…but what happens after the next election…who says the preident and prime minister will not be from the same party…how will that really help anything…why not limit prezzo power by increasing that of MP’ and the house, that of the judiciary.. I don’t know about you…but who the hell knows who the preident of India is? Canada and Australia have PM’s but do u think the majority of the Queen’s subjects in those countries feel her “power”.
This “prime minister ” position i just about hijacking Kibaki’s presidency!!
Leoedd & all,
I agree with what most of u guys say. Problem is where the ODM has been shouting out loud that elections were rigged..and u guys know what happens when the more a lie is shouted out the more true it sounds..
I’m skeptical about the PM post too. First take them butchers of RV to Hague, export Balala to Saudia to practise all the sharia under the sun, and then talk of any coalition. Shikwekwe, u too have a point & I must admit, there have been times,I have thought about yeah what the hell, give them all a chance & see what good they can do for the country together. In one way, it looks like there’ll be no opposition to check what these guys are upto. But, jail them butchers/guilty first otherwise they’ll keep killing while they know they can get away with such heinous crimes.
KenyanGuy
My support for the coalition is not based on the notion that i hava faith in it, its coz Kenyans seem hinged on the idea that it will bring peace, and for me thats ok. About the butchers being arrested, we need peace and a functioning govt. so courts can convene and mete out justice, another point to get the govt. running even if its shared power. Constitution review and overhaul to, we need the govt. and parliament to be up. If we can get at least a functioning govt. then we can start to address all the ills we have in Kenya.
and what can you say about the grand coalition government now?
