On-Line Pornography – I Smell Money

I’m getting desperate and um…um…um….every time I read about a “sure thing” business idea, the word “pornography” always seems to come up. If the basic assumption in business is that you have to figure out where the demand is, then isn’t sex a sure seller?

I am in the process of setting up some sites for on-line ad’s that I want to run and I’m really not in the mood for another failure. I really I’m not. So, I’ve been doing some reading and er….this book I’m reading basically says that if you want to make some good money very quickly, you should seriously consider running ad’s for adult content sites. I was going to run ad’s for diet products because Americans are obese and they’re always looking for quick fix weight loss drugs, but now, this has me thinking.

As long as I don’t get into child porn, my moral compass will be guilt free. Although I might also want to stay away from sites that promote rape scenes and stuff like that. But what about stuff like S&M and Bondage?(I’d have to think about that one). However, I’m reading about this guy (in the link I’ve posted below) who’s making millions of dollars by promoting adult sites specifically targeted to people who like S&M. He claims that S&M was his personal fetish and I guess he followed his passion and went with what he liked.)

A lot of folks think that people who run these sites are a bunch of dirty old men (think, Larry Flint) but based on the article below, a lot of these guys are tech savy business people with very interesting creative backgrounds. Here’s a sampling of those people from the article:

  • The founder of a popular site called kinks.com is a 36 year old former stock analyst who dropped out of a Ph.d program in finance at Columbia University to get into the online porn business after he read about a British fireman who was making lots of money running these sites and not working that much at all.

  • A Harvard alum in Kink’s marketing department worked in restaurants after moving to San Francisco and got his first adult-industry job after searching for the word “fun” on Craigslist.

  • Reena Patel, Kink’s vice president for marketing, who has an M.B.A. and previously worked at Merrill Lynch said, “I actually apply my education to this job”. (don’t get ahead of yourself Reena!).
  • Look at this companies benefits:

  • There are weekly catered lunches.

  • Everyone at the company works 10 to 6.
  • I don’t think you can ever get bored working at a place like this! and my thinking right now is trying to find a business that does not involve having to deal with physical inventory. Trading is one, but this might just be the second. hmmmmmmm

To venture into the porn industry will require considerable amount of thought and see if one is really comfortable within this sector. I know a fellow here in the USA Phd from Standford in this industry. When i asked him why he chose to take a walk on this path he says he did it for money. Indeed he is doing considerably well and resides in Forbes listed most expensive zipcodes in the USA.

It all boils down to making individual choice, tailoring an outfit you feel comfortable in.
