Orengo: Somebody Done Fooled Me….
What can I say? The Grand Regency Larceny hotel has been sold for 2 Billion shillings and Orengo was caught unawares. Poor Orengo. Did he actually believe the grand coalition illusion was real? (Did Ghosts buy this hotel?)
Like I’ve said before, Kibaki is now a dictator and at the presidential and executive level, there is no democracy in Kenya today and that is absolutely fine with me because I don’t think African countries are ready for democracy just yet.
However, if Kibaki is going to rule like a dictator (as he is now), he cannot allow this wanton corruption to take place because it will eventually affect the economy and then, if that happens, he will turn himself into a Moi: i.e. he will become not just a mere dictator, but an incompetent dictator.
The CBK governor should not be doing this. This is not his hotel and it’s not his money. It’s the taxpayers money and as a public servant, he has an obligation to tell the people where their money is going!
So, now, Orengo is threatening to go after the officers in his ministry who went behind his back and helped facilitate this deal, but they’re not the problem. The problem is this grand illusion.
The other problem of course, is the Libyans. What are these guys up to? And why are both governments (Kenya & Libya, using taxpayer money to get into the hotel business? shouldn’t hotels be owned by private companies?).
Somebody just ate a big hunk of ugali. Who do you think it was? Kimunya? Kibaki? Ndungu? We all know the Libyans didn’t get that hotel deal without coughing up some “ugali”. There’s no question bribes were paid. That goes without saying. So, what the hecks going on here??
ur kibaki & kimunya & ndungu (erm, is it a coincidence that they all hail from GEMA)… are _____ the country… even you realize it.
It is not their money. Kenyans just got cluster-_____.
SafCon was sold to the ‘foreigners’ at a 2/- discount (KES 3bn) & a loss to Kenyans except u know who made out like bandits.
anglo-fleecing is back on track. The kamanis are in town. And their protectors want to continue _____ the average Kenya.
kimunya allows de la rue to ___ us. how? By printing low quality banknotes when we can import higher quality banknotes that will save us billions. kimunya claims the loss of 300 jobs… with the billions saved, we could pay the 300 to do NOTHING & still save money!!!!
Why do your think Martha Karua – combative but clean – is distancing herself from these bandits?
Does she (among other GEMA) feel betrayed?
And kibaki is no kagame… If Rwanda was Kenya’s neighbour & he invaded Kenya… I think many Kenyans would welcome him with open arms… kinda how the Ugandans welcomed the Tanzanian army when it ousted idi amin.
Coldtusker:
I’ve never been impressed by Kimunya. You hear him give interviews and he stammers his words, he has a hard time explaining basic concepts and he’s just not particularly impressive. If Kenya was serious, Anyang Nyongo, would be the finance minister because Nyongo is much smarter than Kimunya.
Kimunya is not really running that ministry. He is simply getting direction from other people (world bank advisers, maybe the permanent secretary and a few others)but he is not the “brains” behind the decision making process and that is clear when you listen to him speak.
Do you see now why we need an opposition? Raila cannot tell Orengo to keep quiet after this!
And that CBK governor is a very arrogant man. Does he think he is God? taxpayers are paying his salary for goodness sakes.
How “poor” is Kimunya as compared to people like Kibaki and Michuki and is he just trying to “catch” up to them in terms of wealth mis-accumulation?
The other angle of course is that these guys need the money ahead of the 2012 election and they are stocking up now.
It is not about 2012. I think the PuNanies… got money from the likes of kamani & gadaffi.. and this is payback.
Raila for all his faults has NOTHING on the PuNanies…
I feel so dirty just being in the same country as these philistines.
KE
Kibaki is rotten: Moi was better will be better when history is written: Kibaki is downright himself now: Dirty and corrupt to the core
Kimunya i have learned is not the fool you think: He is the richest minister in Kenya now: He fleeced safcom, all other IPO..Regency etc in cahoots with Kibaki
KE : Do you think this guys (Kibaki & Michuki ) wil fix the RV problem? They do not care about Kyuks or whatever:::Their problem is MONEY
I support the sale of the hotel. The money has been given back to the CBK so there is no loss. It had been valued at that price so there is nothing underhand.
If anybody alleges that Kibaki or Kimunya have been bribed, then let them table the evidence. Kenyans should be more mature than that.
I do not think it is practicable for the govt to be consulting Kenyans on every decision. This will create paralysis and nothing will ever get done. Or worse, it may create animosity between the different political formations resulting in the kind of mindless, primitive violence we witnessed earlier in the year.
The govt should by now have learnt the important lesson of being decisive. If anyone threatens the security of the state, then let the govt act swiftly and decisively.
I now support benign dictatorships. Thank you very much.
Josh:
How do you know the money went to the CBK?
Kimunya is not a monarch. He is not a King and that hotel does not belong to him. Illegally gotten taxpayer money was used to build the hotel and as such, the people, through their representatives in parliament, have a right to know where their money is going.
If the deal is so clean, why was it done under cover of darkness? Kimunya wasn’t going to say anything until he was outed publicly.
It’s very clear what’s happening. Pattni pays up, then they let him off the hook. Then, the Libyans pay up and they get the hotel. The idea that the Libyans are the only one’s who could come up with $30 million dollars (which really is not a lot of money for many private businesses around the world) is just a joke.
A lot more than $30 million was paid, but it was transferred into a private bank account and these guys are going to divide the loot. It’s very clear how Ringera’s office is operating. If you play ball and pay up, they won’t prosecute, but if you don’t, they’ll come after you.
josh: go on alfred mutua… protect your thieving employers.
WTF? Who said ‘consult’ all Kenyans… the bastards did not even consult the relevant ministers… and how do I know the valuers were not told/paid to value it low enough so the libyans & their fellow bastards buy it for a song?
GRH is PRIME property. Would TPS sell the Nairobi Serena for KES 3bn?
The GoK even fucked the Essar Group who wanted to buy the refinery. The libyans low-balled but the Oil Multinationals (which owned 50% of KPRL) balked & picked Essar.
kibz & his minions are stealing all they can before 2012.
KE, Coldtusker
No need to get so angry. This is politics.
Raila and Kibz met yesterday apparently to discuss the matter – without their respective ministers. Presumably Raila will get his half billion and the rest will be history (if what you say is true).
The fact is the govt is broke and they need cash buyers to finance the budget.
Ruto recently handed out 4 million worth of shares of Kenya Seed to Nathaniel Tum who was facing corruption charges so that the case could be concluded. Did I see Orengo huffing and puffing?? Hell No! Kimunya sells a moribund hotel and hands over 2.9 billion to CBK and he is labelled a thief.
Guys, if you any evidence – table it. Do not whip up emotions on hearsay.
Josh:
That’s the first thing I thought of when I read Raila was meeting with Kibaki – he needs to get his share of the ugali and then everything will be all set.
Why is the government broke? Answer that question for us please, thank you.
Josh:
I do not condone corruption… and ‘selling’ GRH for KES 2.9bn is a mega-scam. BTW, if ruto is guilty then hell yes go after him! Also seeds do not come under Orengo.
Evidnce? Laughable… when the evidence for anglo-fleecing was tabled, the bastard known as awori got paid to defend it in parliament!
It’s not about ‘politics as usual’… it is about Kenyans who need CLEAN leadership. I look at Kagame and wish he were our president.
Please see the 2 prior clips that KE has posted….
KE
The govt is broke because of the post-election violence. Economic activity was disrupted all over the country from farming to tourism. This violent episode did some serious damage to Kenya and it will take years to recover.
Don’t forget that Kenya was doing very well during Kibaki’s first term and there was absolutely no need for the attempt to depose him. It is a well known fact that the only motive was tribalism. But that is all water under the bridge now.
And now the little money that is collected from tax is going to finance the bloated cabinet. ( the oil prices).
So, who do you blame for this?
Coldtusker
I knew Kagame before you knew him. I knew alot of those Rwandese exiles when they were operating in Nairobi in the 80s.
Kagame has brutally silenced his critics. He is not the saint you think he is. He is a brutal military dictator. I laughed when I saw him calling the Zimbabwean elections a sham, when his own in Rwanda were worse than Mugabe’s. Do you know he sent assassins to Nairobi to kill some Rwandese dissidents in 1999?
However, I am already on record as a supporter of a benign dictatorship. He is achieving and that is all that matters.
If Kimunya and Kibaki have done something wrong, let evidence be tabled and let them be impeached. If there is no evidence, let us move on please.
Josh,
You think you are an intellectual because you can try and justify the reason Africa is the way it is. Wazungus like you who want nothing but destruction of African countries ought to be hanged, together with the Kimunyas of this world. You obviously lived in Karen or went to one of those posh schools with kids of Kibz and Moi. Let me tell you, majority of these guys are treading on thin ice. The next skirmish will involve the displacement of the fat cats just like Samuel Doe in Liberia.
What a bunch of selfish pigs!
The next panga is landing at Treasury.
Why the secrecy on GRH? Why didn’t amos tell us who the bidders were… in fact a public bidding process aka public auction would have whipped the buyers into a frenzy. I wonder if TPS Serena or Fairmont (Norfolk+MKSC buyers) were in the picture…
Why not publish the valuation reports? Just put them online…
If all was ‘official’ then why not just be open about the process?
Josh:
I don’t think you get it. Inflation is out of control . The costs of goods are going up all over the place. I just had a friend who got back from Kenya the other day and he couldn’t figure out how people were making ends meet (and he was operating with u.s. dollars and still thought it was expensive).
Then, against this back-drop of millions of people struggling, Kimunya turns around and “sells” a hotel which does not belong to him! Did you hear the CBK governor arrogantly refusing to answer questions about the sale of this hotel? Does he know it’s the taxpayers of kenya who are paying his salary?
The country does not belong to Kimunya or to the CBK governor. These guys are public servants and they are there to serve the public. And because that hotel was purchased with public money, they have an obligation to tell parliament (the people’s representatives) what’s going on.
Kibaki is tone deaf to the public mood. He was tone deaf when he was warned that post election violence would erupt and now, he is tone deaf to the rising anger against his presidency and it’s blatant arrogance. Now, even some kikuyu ministers and MP’s are disowning Kimunya.
Kibaki needs to have some integrity and he needs to clamp down on this corruption for the sake of all the kenyans who are just struggling to make ends meet.
Where is his soul? and I’m not trying to sound like a new-age guru here, but at some point, you will begin to look soul-less when you steal like this while some citizens in your country are facing starvation.
@ColdTusker,KE
You sound honest and bitter (rightly so). Thank you very much…Theft really revulsesyou guys: We need you
@Josh
Its amzing you can assist a rapist on your dauther!!!Thats what it is:::When one rapes you dauther you don say ”lets investitgate” oh oh…i like dictators….
KE, I disagree with improper disposal of public assets (or whatever Grand Regency is). However, as much there is more to this deals, we are not in the know what the Libyan Government could have paid (did they for example take over the liabilities of the hotel),t he receiver managers didn’t manage the Grand so well.
That notwithstanding, this latest furore is not enough to cover up for what those selfish MPs rob us of in terms of obscene salaries and unpaid tax. They merely want to distract us from the real issue, pay your taxes folks.
Talk of missing your own log in the eye.
All the same we are hoping the issue is brought to rest and Kimunya is one of the most hardworking guys i know in kenya right now. He probably serves corrupt masters. He is an Accountant and i don’t think he would miss such small errors, i hope Kimunya will not be sacrificed. Really.
Its so funny how some debates will always turn to GEMA hating.
I think this is a ploy by the greedy MPs to hit back at Kimunya for insisting that they should pay their taxes.
They had vowed to teach him a lesson.
If there is any evidence of wrong doing, then he should resign.
In the meantime, Pattni should be in Naivasha Maximum breaking quarry.
Kei O: pattni all the others… need I name them?
The only reason pattni got the amnesty is coz the smart dude has video-taped all the crooks he had to deal with and many of them are in gava… or linked to moi…
Lets avoid the emotional bs (CT (do you have something vs Kiuks that gets you worked up?)and Josh.
The GR deal is fishy on a few evidence-based fronts. Pick a plot in any part of Kenya and tell me its value hasn’t doubled since the late 1990s (when GR was valued at Ksh2bn). Also, its public property, why wasn’t it auctioned publicly?
Kimunya-I’ve heard stories since he was at Lands (about the choice bits of land he and co acquired); and at Finance starting with the de-la-rue deal. I think he was a good caddy for Kbz and worked his way from there. Don’t rate him as a FM.
The corruption deals- are a feature of both political parties especially after a general election. Expect to see stuff coming out Immigration and Agriculture in particular as well as others.
Libyans-funnily enough, Raila introduced Kibz to them in the 2002 campaigns.
Pattni-always makes sure that he enmishes whoever in corruption. I’m sure you’ll remember Muite’s 15m and that episode with Raila’s father and Wamalwa to name but a few…
It’ll be hard for Ruto to “eat” because Kimunya is not going to be sending any monies over to Ruto’s ministry. I know Ruto is asking for 72 billion shillings. Is he mad? There’s no way, Kikuyu’s are going to put that much money into Ruto’s hands!
I have no doubt all these politicians are corrupt, but Kimunya is now getting sloppy and that sloppiness is arising out of his own sense of arrogance. He either thinks people are stupid or he thinks he’s smarter than everyone else, but he’s not because he got caught.
They should stop pretending and just do it like the Asians. You don’t steal from the treasury or from taxpayers, you steal from private companies. So, if any private company wants to start a business in Kenya, they have to drop 10% into your account, but in exchange for that, you let the private business operate on it’s own terms and hope that they’ll create jobs and help rebuild the economy. This is what Moi finally figured out with Safaricom.
Don’t do government to government deals and don’t eat alone (they’re refusing to share the loot with orengo and for that, he’s gonna out them). Orengo is a known womanizer and he’d never refuse “ugali” if offered. He needs the money for all his ndogo ndogo adventures.
MainaT: Nothing against GEMA… just wanted to pull KE’s leg when we went head to head coz I was supporting ODM…
Now… let me get one thing straight… there are very few current MPs I wud vote for… but I was choosing the lesser of 2 evils when kibz did nothing about aglo-fleecing… and his comment/question about “whose goat have you stolen”… now that really got my goat…
I was an ardent kibz supporter until anglo-fleecing came along and no-one (except Githongo lifted a finger)…
Please watch V for Vendetta… yes, great movie… very insightful!
Guys, guys, calm down pliz.
By the way, whose goat have I stolen to warrant all this aggro? Even poor Matofa is accusing me of being a “white farmer”. That made my day!
All I am saying is that Kenyans should stop this habit of trying people by the media. If Kimunya has done something wrong and it is found that makosa ilifanyika – then he should resign.
But i for one will not jump into a bandwagon of hysterics without a proper investigation and the tabling of evidence.
And I fully agree with KE that there is no way Ruto is going to get 72 Billion. Does he think we are fools????
KE
Incidentally, I just came from Kenya. What I noted is that there is a buzz in the air and people are generally optimistic that we are on the right track.
Everybody I spoke to said they have seen an improvement in their general economic well-being (I did not speak to any direct victims of the post-election violence).
People on the ground in Kenya are not obsessed with politics. They are just getting on with their lives.
My conclusion is that Kenyans are very hardworking – they are only let down by their governments.
Hahahahahahahaaaa! Heheheeeee!!!
I am laughing because I have just read that Jirongo is the one to lead protests against Kimunya.
He should first confess about his shady past.
To all,
it seems kenya is really a country run by “majambazi”
from the petty thieves on the street, to the ruling elite class in both ODM and PNU , and to all those majambazi giving protection to the super jambazi Feliecien Kabuga.
KeiO,
I also laughed when I saw jirongo on ntv saying that “kimunya should go coz he misappropriated public assets”,,damn, talk of wolf in sheep’s clothing
We have to start doing things right. This is not about Gema, this is about corruption that could see some crooks even sell parliament on the pretext that the govt needs the money. If there were refunds of more than 200 billion in Safaricom, who said that Kenyans could not buy grand regency? Its sheer corruption to say it will be sold on tender and the next day we hear that it has been sold. I guess we need a vote of no confidence on the Minister and the Governor of CBK. There needs to be a new beginning. Moin sold so much govt l;and and some people went ahead and displaced other communities as they bought communal land in shady deals. Lets face the truth. Let everyone follow the law. And lets reverse this deal. If it needs to be sold, let them put down the guidelines and let it be an open tender. We need a new beginning on issues of corruption otherwise theres a lot to sell, kasarani, the airports, parliament, state house, the roads, the hospitals. Theyll sell it all!
Let the hotel be sold to Kenyans then!
That I would support.
You know – all this follows a perfect progression. I think Raila’s team with its endless capacity at propaganda; dis information (backed by the Americans and the Brits) just needed something to get rid of Kimunya. Period! That is just politics. If anyone has time to read scarcity and surfeit – one will really get an insight on the type of politics ODM is playing. PNU? Well they just mess up all the time – but then again – who would trust ODM politicians not to do the same? Ruto? To be clean? Anyang Nyongo seems his brains are bursted by that virus he brought onto himself! ODM seems to have read the book – blamed others for the mess ups and and using ethnicity, propaganda and witch hunting to get their own way. There will certainly be violence again in the Rift Valley (much to the benefit of Kalenjins who figure killing is the answer – lets see how much wealthier they will get from postage sized parcels of land!!). And Kenya has just been set up for civil war…for sure! But then again – if it is decreed by the west – who are we to reject such a fate? Just take a moment to think about the Kenyan politics……there is a distinct pattern. Both sides evil. But I must admit ODM is much more sinister than anyone had anticipated. I think Kibaki is fed up…..probably wants to head to Othaya to rest. Kenyans are really not the most pleasant beings to manage!
Disgusted Kenyan: Nice try… shifting the blame to ODM for something that is not their fault!
So what if PNU “messes up all the time”… well… something must be wrong with them. Folks are upset coz this is brazen theft. If not theft then why the secrecy?
I do not believe kimunya is the sole culprit. He might get scapegoated but there are others who need to explain their roles including ndungu of CBK, wako the AG, kibz, pattni, adan of wetangula, makhoha & adan advocates & muthuara…
Even an ardent supporter of PNU & kibz has stepped back… Justice Minister Martha Karua… something must be stinking real bad…
Cabinet’s ‘collective responsibility’ is OK for policy but not for sleaze & corruption!
Disgusted Kenyan:
Okay: so, if you are Kimunya and you know ODM is gunning for you, why give them the bait? You know why? he thought everyone was stupid and he thought he’d never get caught. That’s why I said these people are tone deaf – It’s getting harder to steal in today’s Kenya. If you don’t get prosecuted, in the very least, you’ll be shamed publicly.
KE: Have you changed sides??? No more kibz-praising?
Coldtusker:
I was against Raila and Ruto’s use of violence against the Kikuyu’s in the rift valley. That was wrong and because of that violence, I will never support Raila or Ruto, ever. And I hope neither of them ever ascends to the presidency.
So, my support for Kibaki was really about me supporting his fight against the Kalenjins who were out to just kill Kikuyu’s, but I’ve said on many occassions that Kibaki is no saint. I simply picked who in my view, was the lesser of two evils.
I’m not going to praise kibaki just for the sake of praising him. His legacy is already tainted and if he continues allowing this kind of corruption to take place, that legacy will be destroyed. At some point, he needs to start telling these Kikuyu ministers that what they are doing is just not right. People are facing hunger and you are busy stealing? He needs to tell Kimunya and Ndungu to cut that shit out and stop embarrassing him.
Arrest all involved parties and do some investigations.Think about our children and all those looking forward to growing up in kenya.Lets make a good nation for them.Pesa ya dunia tutaiacha hapahapa.Lets all have a sence of national heritage. That way Kenya will reclaim its former Glory. Treat any wrongdoer as such, that way kila mtu atachunga job yake.I wish there was some form of accoantability in Kenya. There is a list of evil doing going on amongst the kenyan leaders but we ordinary folks will just meza vidonge, coz its too sick and way too corrupt beyond any description.
