Raila is a Funny Dude. He really is….
Here is Raila Odinga calling for the resignation of the following people: The minister of finance, the CBK governor and the head of Kenya’s Intelligence unit, the NSIS. Um….Does anyone honestly believe that Kibaki is going to fire some of the most powerful men in the country? and even if Kibaki did, they’d be replaced by either Kikuyu’s or Kamba’s, no one else.
I am continually amazed that people still think that Raila Odinga has any kind of real power in Kenya or that this grand coalition is anything other than a farce. This is a fight for power and nobody just gives up their hard earned power that easily.
It’s very clear what ODM is doing here. They want Finance because they want to control the money. They want the CBK governorship, again, to control the money. Then of course, if they can cut into the NSIS, they’ll really be closer to reaching their goal of consolidating more power for themselves. This is no longer about the people. It’s about one side trying to hold on to it’s power and another side trying to gain more power.
Politics is a blood sport.

I am still to see the wrong doings committed by Amos Kimunya. Is it about the hotel or is it about putting the MPs pay on the spotlight? I think the MPs want him out because he wanted their pay taxed. Remember how angry they were when Kaparo rightly called them lazy and “not serious”. They were walking around the house baying for his blood. Unfortunately for them, the people and the media were with Kaparo, so they let go.
For Kimunya, the media is not with him, they are not even showing us the evindence and worse still, Kimunya is a Kikuyu so it is OK to lynch him on Sunday, ama sio?
Eric: All kimunya has to do is show WHY he did not follow a transparent process to dispose of GRH. It is not (& should not be) about him being a kikuyu.
1) Why was kimunya directly involved in the sale of the hotel & why did he speak for the Seller (CBK) when ndungu or mutua or others could/should have?
The sale should have been left to the CBK – with kimunya’s oversight that there was no hanky-panky – and others within the government who should ensure that all was done by the book.
2) This matter needs to be de-politicised but the “libyan” connection cannot be gainsaid. There seems to be a deal struck by kibaki (for what reason & reward) that has allowed the libyans to walk roughshod over Essar (KPRL deal) as well as other bidders in the GRH deal.
The libyans are being ‘sold’ our assets in a manner that worries me i.e. they don’t make the highest bids but ‘up’ their bids only IF they are out-bid. Soon the other bidders – when they compete against the libyans – will back out since the game is rigged. That will leave the libyans as the only bidders who can LOW-BALL all they want!
3) Lead by example. Please sell the assets in a TRANSPARENT manner. Maybe KES 2.9 bn is the best price out there. I do not know but a sealed-bid auction with a 10% security deposit – nonrefundable if the winning Bidder reneges – can help discover the best price.
The ’10%’ premium paid by ‘foreign shareholders’ for Safaricom shares was another scam. Why? Kenyans would have paid more that 5.50! I understand bids as high as 6.50 were rejected without any explanation from dyer & blair or morgan stanley.
The solution for GRH is simple. Put GRH on the block. Ask the libyans to bid for GRH in a sealed-bid auction. Advertise the sale internationally. Contact all those who showed an interest earlier to put in a bid. If we get less than KES 2.9bn then kimunya is vindicated. If we get more than KES 2.9bn then, we know what kimunya should do.
Oh and our ‘holier than thou’ MPs should pass the law where they pay the taxes I do.
Beer baridi,
I agree with you, Kimunya’s involvement makes the whole deal fishy. What I don’t understand if the ODM mob-justice mentality, I mean, with all the things that are wrong in Kenya today, Kimunya doesn’t really top the list. I give you some examples of Ministries and issues that should be at the top of any right thinking leader in Kenya today.
1. IDPs: How long will those poor Kenyans continue to summer in the camps?
2. Illegal arrests: Those kenyans who were arrested on charges of commiting crimes of ethnic cleansing should be charged or released. Hatutaki Abugrab or Guatanamo!
3. Those who planned, financed and executed the acts of ethnic cleansing in RV should be shewing ugali in Kamiti!
4. Kisumu shootings should also be investigated and those who authorised any excesses face the law
5. Goldenberg
6. Land issue and Ndungu land report
7. Examination crisis.(KCPE and KCSE) Every year, same mess
8. Food shortage
9. Constitution: When shall we get it?
10. ECK
11. GRH and Kimunya
That is how my list looks like.
Sasa, kwani those MPs are not so angry to want to address the above, ati Kimunya kwanza, just weeks after he suggested the goons pay taxes!
Eric: No. We can’t make a list and push GRH down the list.
We have to prevent new ‘scams’ and fix those we can.
Regarding 1-4, those can only be solved on a political basis. It is sad but I do not know a solution for them. Or rather my solution will not be politically acceptable.
5 – It has been beaten to death. The major players have stolen, flipped the bird at the system since they have political support e.g. moi, kotut, pattni & saitoti.
6 – This can be fixed if there is political goodwill but the ‘big’ crooks including kenyatta family has too much power & are needed by the current government. KANU/kenyatta has the 2nd largest number of seats in parliament.
7 – Invite the Singaporeans & give them absolute control. It will be sorted out in 12 months.
8 – Not in the control of the government. They can, at most, help but Kenyans need to a) cut down on population growth b) use better farming methods c) improve infrastructure for transport of food. It is (c) where the GoK can make the greatest impact.
9 – Important but we should adopt the Ghai document.
I agree with Coldtusker. Just because there are more important issues does not mean that Kimunya should be pushed down the list. We have to start somewhere and quite honestly, this Goldenberg thing is getting tiring!!!! Kimunya having resigned probably won’t shed that much light on it but at least people are aware that Kenyans are looking carefully at these ridiculous politicians. I’m tired of being taken for a fool.
Coldtusker and Anne-marie,
I think my point might not have been clear, what I wanted to stress was that the Mps have fallen asleep on the job until Kimunya mentioned taxes and MPs in the same sentences and alas KABOOM!! they hastely voted against him and declared him persona non granta. If those dudes were really serious on corruption, they would have been acting earlier, kwanini sasa? Secondly, I see nothing honest in Jirongo leading a demo against corruption, I mean kwani ni mimi tu naona huu kama upusi?
Those issues I listed were in order because they happened before the Hotel sale. Secondly, they affected the common Kenyans in huge numbers and many are life threatening.
Issues 1-4,8 affect life thus fundamental.
Constitution would take care of ECK, land and other issues in one go.
Having said that, as long as Kenyans as a people do not change the way of thinking, nothing will change. Critical pedagogy would be in order.
#Eric
Any order it solved is OK….’ I mean kwani ni mimi tu naona huu kama upusi?….Yes i think i know why you see it that way but it will impolite to mention it:
Take consolation though this guys(Kimunyas…) NEVER GIVE YOU A DIME anyway.
o lord,
just spit it out.
Personally I would like Kimunya to stay and force PNU and Baba Jimmy to take a public stand on the issue. After that, it will be Kimunya at the alter as a scapegoat, PNU or ODM pull out of the double-headed moster that imposed itself on Kenya in the name coalition govt midwived by Koffi. Kenyans have a right to know who won the 2007 elections.
The sooner we have sober elections the better. Wacha kwanza, si Balala and other RV dudes wanted majimbo, hiyo inaweza kuwa solution poa sana. The Kenyan political situation is a big mess. Corruption and mega deals are the way to finance campaigns and violence and intimidation are the means to determine the winner. Where are the good men and women like Muge and Njoya? Where are the selfless fighters of the 70s and 80s? I mean the real ones, not akina Kiraitu and Raila who forget the struggle the minute they get a flag on their car.
Man, dunno where to start.
Honestly, I don’t see how corruption monster will be slayed by the departure of Amos. In a cabinet of experienced thieves from all eras, Kenyatta’s, Moi’s, Kibaki 1′s and now Kibaki 2′s. All those dudes like Michuki, Saitoti, Mudavadi, contractor Maina, Kosgey, Kibaki, Ruto, Raila and bro, Ole Ntimama… same old dudes and their well tutored boys.
No more rants from me.
Kimunya resigns few days after saying “over my dead body”. I bet Kumekucha dudes are happy tonight.
Government spokesman said the resignation was only a temporary move. A few weeks, months or even years bila Minister of Finance.
KE said,
…..and even if Kibaki did, they’d be replaced by either Kikuyu’s or Kamba’s, no one else…..
You know what, go fuck yourself.
Sas:
You know how politics in Kenya works. Do you think it’s a surprise that Oburu Odinga was made the assistant minister at finance?
But hey, who knows?…we’ll see what happens.
