The Owner of the domain name: NewYork.com
I got excited about this story when I discovered that the owner of what’s probably the world’s most famous city name is a black guy who lives in Philadelphia. He registered the name in 1994, but didn’t start making money with it until around 2003 when google revolutionized the internet ad business model.
I can’t even imagine how much money that site is bringing just from the ads. If he wanted, he could probably sell this name for millions and millions of dollars, but he recognizes it’s long term value and he’s holding on to it.
[The site Vodka.com was sold for $3 million dollars (a Russian billionaire who wanted to use it to sell his special vodka bought it up). Other sites sold for millions include business.com sold for $7.5 million and sex.com sold for $12 million.]
