I’m always interested in learning about different cultures and I came upon this video of Kalenjin “Morans”. If the video hadn’t specified that they were Kalenjins, I would have assumed they were Maasai’s. I don’t know what year this video was taken, but it must have been a while ago because only Maasai’s dress like that today, but I guess they weren’t the only one’s who did; Very interesting…the similarities.

I need a Kalenjin translator on this one.

If the video is that old, then they can’t be “Kale” warriors. “Kale” was the term created during Moi era to boost their numbers. When the white man arrived in Kenya, they were:
    Nandi(Ruto),
    Tugen(Moi),
    Elgeyo(Biwott),
    Marakwet(Ms.Kilimo),
    Pokot(Poghisho),
    Kipsigis(Kones)
    Ichamus(maginalized).

I think there more difference among these groups than there is btn Kyuks and Aembus.Any doubts?

Since I ‘ve lived in Kenya, Luhyas vs. Luos has been the greatest rivalry, forget about Kyuks. If you ever attended AFC vs. Gor Mahia match, then you would know they hated each other’s guts. They could never sit,eat or mingle many months after the game was over. Then comes one Raila and Corky Mudavadi with their “Dini ya Msambwa-Masinde prophecy” and the rest is history. How politics are strange!I am not a tribalist nor advocating disunity but just stating a fact…Keep it Real. WE ALL KNOW that were it NOT for that Elijah Masinde Bull crap…Luhyas would have never voted for Raila. “Votes at any cost or should I say trick”.Same with Ruto “Tutawanyorosha” (Kyuks)theme.Pumbavu bule Kabisa!

    DEE,

What language are these people singing in then? And who are they chamus? never heard of them before

Did you know that there is a huge number of lower class Kyuks in Nairobi that voted for Raila. How I know…even a former Kyuk classmate who now sells Mitumba in Dandora campaigned for Raila. They all thought Raila was for the poor. Now they are being attacked by Luos…Raila just lost votes. What about Kisiis in Nyanza or Luhyas (Hamisi) being maimed by arrows and matchetes. Am telling you Raila has already lost all voters from Gusii Nyanza and some parts of Western Kenya. Mark my words, if this Re-run thing happens, Raila will loose by over I million votes. I supported him but after witnessing the likes of real Ruto, I won’t trust his government any more.He has lost my vote too.

ICHAMUS are a small group of tribal people of the Kalenjin family living by Lake Baringo. They are an endangered native group similar to ndorobos of Mau forest or the El molo of Lake Turkana.Very few Kenyans can claim to have encountered either of these three tribes.Personally I met one El molo boy in High School (Nanyuki)and its still a fascinating moment for me today. He was a cool kid. These people need voices else they may become extinct very soon. No kidding!

To support my previous “Kale” point, when the White man passed through Rift Valley..he encountered “Nandi Resistance” NOT Kalenjin. Read history books.Their Leader, the brave Koitalel arap Samoei called himself a Nandi leader NOT Kalenjin. To me “Kale” is like Kenyatta changing official terms and creating GEMA tribe to boost himself politically. But he didn’t…the government differentiated Kyuks,Meru and Embus.GEMA was just a pawn for Kiambu Mafia. So was ” Kalenjin”,a pawn for Rift Valley Mafia.

  7. dee on January 31, 2008 at 12:10 am

One may argue about the names. Arap Samoei (Nandi) or Arap Moi (Tugen). Nonesense!..Arap means “son of”…no difference between Mwai wa Kibaki (Kyuk) or Kiraitu wa muriungi (meru). Its all part of Linguistic group concept. Dig it?

  8. Orokoiyot on January 31, 2008 at 1:45 am

Arap is not the same as “Wa”.

  9. Orokoiyot on January 31, 2008 at 1:47 am

Are you debating against yourself? What is your stupid point? And what does “Kale” mean? You lazy Bum…do you even know what Kalenjin means?

The Ilchamus people were also known as ‘Njemps’ by the white people(they couldn’t pronounce it).Their dialect closely resembles the Samburu people hence their connection to the Maa people. They were cut off from their people during the colonial era and occupy the area between Lake’s Baringo and Bogoria in Baringo district. Thus they are not the 7th kale group. The last kale group is the Sabaot people of Mt.Elgon

    Nas:

So, the people in this video are actually Njemps? that would make sense because the Njemps are very, very, similar to the Maasai/Samburu.

Is there a difference in language between these various Kalenjin groups?

Your are the most evil human being on the planet- I hope you are not physically in Kenya – I’m glad many Kenyans can read your website and if and when Kenya comes back to its glory -we assure you will look for your hateful face -Keep on preaching hate regarding other Kenyan tribes- we have copied everything on your site!! the day we find you face to face -will will expose your hate to all your community abroad the international news agencies and Kenyans who believe they are indeed Kenyans (not tribes) we will display your picture attaching every week -every post you have put on here- just to show the world what an evil person and coward exists behind this blog- we will find you !!It won’t take us long-
your picture will be everywhere and some of your bloggers here are evil and finding who is behind each blog ain’t difficult- just paying a brilliant nerd to find you is damn easy- watch us in action- wait for your picture on BBC-CNN-ALJASEER -NO WE WON’T BOTHER WITH THE KENYA MEDIA SINCE THEY ARE OWNED BY GOVERNMENT-other African countries will do- by the way I’m a woman who went through all your posts and blogs looking for news from Kenya and guess what I found- I’m Kikuyu married to a Kalenjin and I love him to death- I guess all your friendly bloggers are very happy to be entertained by your hateful postings – what goes round comes back round- years down the road you will get your it or your children will be touched by the same!!.
I wonder what you all will be teaching your children!!to hate all other Kenyan tribes except kikuyu!!I have my favourite international journalist – a friend of mine- I will definitely show him this hateful site by kikuyu Kenyans who are blood thirsty-(KENYANENTREPRENEUR.COM THE EVIL BEING)for death of other tribes
I think we can get an article in BBC, CNN, Guardian e.t.c just to show how much hate is hidden behind key boards- Mashada was viewed on BBC it is your turn to be viewed on how hateful and evil the “kikuyu tribe” has always been to other tribes demeaning them!! ! Ha!!ha!! Being a kikuyu- I could never associate myself with the likes of such evil people like you and your evil and hateful blogger friends from hells gate!! ( I guess you have to drug your children to only fall in love with kikuyu’s uko abroad or Wazungu’s and the Mexicans!! I already pity them!!
May the power of God bless Kenya and remove evil beings like you cult of blood thirsty kikuyu’s

Kenyan-you are an idiot! You seem to have issues with yourself. Its people like you that will doom Kenya. First of all am proud that you are married to a Kalenjin. I have Kalenjin family too. But to make Kenya a united nation,we must appreciate and celebrate our diversity. Hail Bomas of Kenya.Remember our “nation state” is artificial,we never even created or named it.Outsiders made us “Kenyans”…Secondly to enhance cohesiveness we must exploit our resources for the greater good of all with recognizing each one’s contribution whether it’s a njemp fisherman or a mijikenda farmer. Yes! we are all Kenyans but our roots will never change unless we all intermarry like you 100%.

  15. dee on January 31, 2008 at 11:33 pm

ORKOIYOT- “Kale” is a short form, has nothing to do with my attitude towards “your people”. So enlighten me what “Kale”,sorry I mean “Kalenjin” means. By the way when I compared “Arap” to “wa”…I never said they mean the same..(I hope you understand simple English) only they are used the same way.
To all Kenyans, remember we all cry and cheer when Dennis Oliech scores for Harambee stars or Janeth Jepkosgei crush the competition on the track. So why do we forget all that during election time? JUST FOR YOUR THOUGHT! Do you think the election violence would have been minimal if HARAMBEE STARS were in Ghana playing at the ACN finals…may be that would been a rallying call of unity. Any takers?
