Who Are The Richest Kenyans? (Amended)
I’ve always said that it’s very hard to ascertain the source of wealth of many people in Kenya. For some, I can understand why they’d not want to talk about it, but for those who claim to have made their money honestly, why not talk about it? It’s the one thing I admire about entrepreneurs in the west: they’ll tell you how they did it and what it took; they’ll give speeches, they’ll write books, they’ll teach classes, etc, etc. Even the newly minted Indian entrepreneurs are beginning to do this. Why not Africans? we hide the money under our beds and guard it with pangas. Why?
Okay. I’ve cleaned up the list, but it’s still all pure guesswork on my part.
The Thieves Politicians:
Moi & family ($1.2 billion)
Kenyatta’s ($400 million)
Biwott ($700 million)
Saitoti ($100 million)
Kibaki ($ 100 million)
Michuki ($100 million)
*Awori ($5 million; how much can you really make selling bricks? & I also don’t think Awori stole. or did he?)
Manufacturing:
Chris Kirubi ($10 million)
Manu Chandaria ($10 million)
Naushad Merali ($10 million)
Kuguru Foods ($2 million)
Finance:
Jimnah Mbaru ($5 million)
James Mwangi ($2 million)
Who else?
The Up & Comers:
The Founders of Kencall? ($0, but in 10 years, who knows? do you see them becoming like a Wipro or even an Infosys? hmmmm)
In this section, I want to include a list of younger Kenyans who may end up making their money {honestly} by tapping into emerging technologies like the internet and mobile phones and/or starting outsourcing companies.
Feel free to add, eliminate or amend this list.
How did you miss me in your list? Haven’t you seen my bank A/C balance at Webster 5 cents credit union??
Just curious? How did you base your ‘estimates?’
My estimates are pure guesses with absolutely no proof or basis.
Aren’t you already on the Forbes list??
does awori really make bricks?
your estimates for michuki might be slightly off, tune them down a little.
and where’s jimnah mbaru, the nse chairman? surely he’s been a good boy and ‘taken care of business’.
This list looks like pure guesswork to me. Where the f@$k is Paul Kamlesh Patn, MAtiba, Simeon Nyachae and Michuki cant be worth all that…..
Sean:
I admitted it was pure guess work on my part! and I also invited people to add to the list….please feel free to do so.
Isn’t Matiba having financial problems with his schools and hotels?
Just what:
I thought Awori started a business where he sold those red bricks that go on people’s rooftops? No?
Rich Kenyan entreprenuers do talk about how they made it. Have a look in the Financial Post (http://www.financialpost.co.ke/Pages/archives.html), I can’t remember exactly which issue featured Joe Wanjui, but they have done several.
If its a rich list you are after this (http://217.21.125.81/index.php.....=index.php) one has who owned what at end of Dec 2006 in the NSE.
I forgot to add Amos Wako to this list (a reliable source told me that he has about $100 million u.s. dollars hidden away in new york bank accounts)
Yes, pure guess work indeed. Reality is that Awori is and has been the richest politician not only in Kenya but in East Africa. His family is scattered between Kenya and Uganda and they are many.
How much is he worth? and how did he make his money?
dont know about awori, but some interesting guy by the name paul ndungu appears about five times on the nse richlist from mainat, with his smallest holding being 7mill (standard group) and his largest being 1.4bilion (KQ). any one know who he is?
I googled paul ndungu’s name and found this:
“Another notable kingpin at the stock exchange is Paul W. Ndungu and Nelson M.Njoroge, ranking as one of the top local individuals appearing among the billionaires atthe NSE”.
I think he is a lawyer and author/chairperson of the ndungu report.
Link on Kenya’s stock market billionaires (which would make them millionaires in u.s. dollar terms)
http://72.14.253.104/search?q=.....o.ke/Pdfs/
KE, thanks for the link. Quite obscure, though. Who puts this info up?
Paul Ndungu is one of the original Safaricom dealers. He used the proceeds to buy shares in KQ and other companies when they were going for a song (Ksh7 etc)
Just what:
I don’t know who put this info up.
mainat:
What do you mean by “one of the original safaricom dealers” – does he own part of safaricom like Moi and family?
i believe mainat means the original licensed retail dealers for airtime/top up time. i know another who made enough to leave a UN job, so ndungu might be genuine after all.
The link is from financial post who sourced the infomation from the NSE listed companies’s annual reports. Hasinet another website also has all the top 10 shareholders of each NSE listed company.
KE-for an entreprenuer who goes on about the internet, whose main selling pt is info, you seem to be a poor utiliser esp where Kenyan busi is concerned. There is a few very rich thieves in Kenya. There are even more genuine rich businessmen in Kenya.
mainat; do those genuine businessmen include those who can influence government procurement and tendering? because getting rich in kenya means selling to the government(eg road contractors) or to the masses(eg safaricom).
Mainat:
You seriously did not say that they are very few rich thieves in Kenya, did you? As just what mentioned, stealing does not just mean taking money out of an office in a gunia! There’s all kinds of shadiness going on. Take safaricom for instance, who owns that 5% stake? is that not stealing?
I’ve always maintained that the reason africa is so poor is because we don’t produce anything. They are very few indigenous african companies and when you don’t produce, you don’t create jobs and without jobs, you have high unemployment and high poverty rates.
India has poverty, but you see how their economy is changing – they have home grown global companies (tata industries, wipro, infosys, steel companies, etc, etc.). I know Kenya’s economy is growing as well, but how long can a countries economy really go without a manufacturing base, without home grown businesses that are part of the global economy and without exports that do not include agricultural commodities?
where are magnate ventures, esther Passaris, Paul Ndungu, Sam jairu, etc?
I don’t know? what do you know about them? should they be on the list? we already mentioned paul ndungu in the comments section.
Who is sam jairu?
what about WILLIAM KABOGO.i think the guy is very rich.Try to visit our neighbours UGANDA.Have ever had the multi millionare ($) who wanted to buy LEEDS UNITED in U.K.What do you have to say about that
If it’s pure guess work then it’s a shame and a waste of our time!
where the hell is passaris, pattni, njenga karume(i hear this guy is major in EABL) and me thinks moi and family is more than that judging by the kroll report jonathan moi is worth $770million what about moi himself and jonathan’s 4bros?
U have forgotten about JOHN harun mwau,AN INLAW OF mr.william Kabogo. This guys have really cash.Aint you aware they are the guys behind pepe invest.a competitor of KPA and also NAKUMATT VIA PROXIES?dRUG CASH??????????????????????????????????//
According to ireeputable sources Kabogo is said to be worth over $10,000,000. This is wealth that has been increasing by the day, from the Nakumatt stores, container Depots and income from Real Estate. It is also said that he owns most Of riverside, through dummy Companies.
Wow if i had 10 mil USD, i’d also get me on of those Choppaz!!!!
Ati 10, that KAfogo guy is worth like 1.5Billion USD, yeah he’s that rich, calculate the cost of a chopper, its like 2 m USD, and that Jet that he has is abt 10mil USD. Talk about cash man.
This Kabogo man is said to be so rich….We are talking Nakumatt, Village Market, Inland Port in Athi River, His Choppers and Jets, Massive land in Nairobi….Worth hundreds of Millions….Not to mention his palatial Nyali, riverside, muthaiga and ruiru homes.
A very reputable source says he is worth over 1 billion US dollars
This is total guess work. So many people missing and the figures are just wrong. One of them is my relative and I know how much he has.
GET A LIFE YOU POOR THINGS.
the richest young girl is Joy N.O
I dont think it really matters who is richer than who or who is richest coz we are all rich in our own small ways in the way we rate ourselves
You cant leave behind this Citizen guy out S.K Macharia mathugumo i do know if the spelling is ok, but you all rember during the Moi days he was said to be worth 2 billion and now with all those media houses he might have broke that record.
You all have far too much time on your hands! And speaking as the son of one of those mentioned above, this ‘guess work’ is totally off!
I think it is safe to say that there are at least 100 Kenyans worth between $20million and $1.5 billion.
About Kabogo I think you are confusing ostentation and wealth. The guy is wealthy, but he is also young and naturally he wants to showing off.
A 4 seater chopper doesn’t cost $10million, one can lease a Chopper from SA for about than $100,000/yr including insurance and qualified Pilot. One can charter a Gulfstream 3 (10yr old plane) for about $20,000/week from SA GulfStream lease agencies.
I would give Kabogo about $5 million, because a lot of his other investments are mixed up with his father in Law (mwau) investments.
The lesson is, get a rich girl and kiss her dads behind.
Kabogo is not married to Mwau’s Daughter and i am sick and tired of everybody messing up his CV for nothing. He was once a business ally of Mwau.
Dont forget upcountry trillionaire landlords. Hapa in Eldy we have d very strangely wealthy Nyairo family who started off as lawyers but own a quarter of d town now and homes abroad. Alfred Nyairo has passed through over 400 million shillings in the time I have worked at an international bank.
There pple in coast who are very loaded…theres Ali punjani , this guy gambles 50 million shillings a night and looses it all and feels nothin..the next day is back at the casino he is worth alot…from bently sport , porsche kayan S500 new model, 4 rane rovers….a private jet…wht can we say
‘ The others’ quit hiding behind anonymity if anything you say about ‘upcountry trillionaires’ has any fraction of truth…. own a quarter of Eldoret indeed. And homes abroad… oh, how we wish. As for the 400 million, where is your proof? Shameless and foolishly jealous coward wasting your precious time hating others on the basis of pure fiction!!! It is lies like these that have inflammed passions in that unfortunate town calle Eldoret. And by the way, there are 3 people, not 1, who go by the name Alfred Nyairo. Which one are you talking about????
‘The others’ Its amazing how one can provide information with such obvious maliciousness and proclaim it to be truth. Even with the 3 Alfred Nyairo’s you failed to mention, do you even know how large the Nyairo family is? I will speak for myself and say, If ‘we’ are 400 million rich, how is it that I am living paycheck to paycheck…, how is it that I work from 6 am to 5 pm to make a living, if my family are ‘trillionares’ I should be sitty pretty. To say this is beyond absurd, is an understatement, and the only reason ‘the others’ would make a statement like that is to encourage hate in an already troubled Eldoret town.
Kwendeni !! nyinyi nyote ni wajinga!! wajinga!! wajinga!! si mutengeneze pesa zenyu!! wapubamfff!!! kazi kuongea kuhusu watu wengine …make ur money…hawa watu ur talkin about hawawezi kukusaidia…
kwenda !! kwenda!!!
kai itari ho naniguo ndi mutongu
kwani u guys dont nu that i own manchester united plus
50% of microsoft.
And here i was thinkin Patni is one of the richest people in kenya…..
get a job n stop idol speculations
I thought as kenyans we should be wise on how we submit our comments….it cost nothing to be a highly ethical person in giving out your comments….otherwise a check measure should be put in place to filter out informations that carry no moral intention. About the wealth of individuals….well I suggest that we should atleast start with ourselves first before guessing and speculating on other peoples wealth. For me I guess I have accumulated close to 20,000
we are all billionaires coz thats all we dream of.it just depends on how it tokas.kuiba, day dreaming ,working blah blah blah so chill out guyz and choose from the options lakini kuiba is not one of the options
I’m worth negative $5,000 dollars, I blame the economy tho. and am now jobless, but if money is what defines us, then am useless!!!!!
Hi Guys,
I have read some of your posts and i would like to bring in some sanity to the discussion. I strongly advocate for coming up with a Kenya Rich List with profiles of each candidate. We should all contribute and amend what has already been put up.
I for one have researched on info e.g. NSE’s Top 100 millionaires and yes, the likes of Paul Wanderi Ndungu, feature prominently. Historical money like that of the Kenyattas should also make its way into the list as well as political & wealer dealer money from the Saitoti’s, Pattni’s, Biwott’s, Kafogos etc.
No forgetting the new money coming in from the likes of the Somens, Makatiani, John Mwangi’s, Sam Kairo etc.
I would be pleased to contribute my 2cents on who i think are the top 100 richest and would like you guys to include profiles on what they own, how they made their cash etc.
:i have not seen mr j… my father anyway i dont blame you because you were guesing.
I think this a dangerous game you guys are playing that is not taking into account any kind of facts. Do you realise that these folks have kids and this could place not just the person listed but their children in harms way? If you have never had your car jacked at gun point and have to beg the thief to let you get your kids from the back seat, if you have never been jacked again at gun point and thrown out like garbage in Karura forest meanwhile having the theives discuss very calmly whether to spare your life or not, its hard to understand what most might see as amusement, may be dead serious to someone else. I’m sure this site was created to have valid debate on issues, but I would ask that unless you have hard facts, please refrain from using someone’s name.
Nyairolet or whatever, do u think the kids are here……the buggers r someone in europe, america, dubai…etc thanks for ur concern about the kids though, jackass…..najua umesota coz of being a coward….b courageous n steal ukishikwa sawa usiposhikwa…u find your name here as one of the richest…..ng’ombe wee!
We like being STATES! in every way but this tyme.. NOPE! Go check on all the bank statements Kenyans own including Indians chini ya MATTRESS! then sit down and do your HOMEWORK!. Give us the right figures men.. or else wee ni FORKO..JEMBE!
talk about your mother fools
What starts out as a valid discussion turns into something nasty. My interest’s been piqued though… and since I work for a magazine this just gave me a great idea for an article, this time with the right facts. I’ll be sure to post a link once it’s done.
Admit it all of us want to be in that list someday
ha!ha!ha!ati richest kenyans……….cant help but laugh,am a kenyan based in dubai worth 20 billion us dollars but my faith does not allow me to floss my wealth………cant believe the money I spend in a year is what moi is worth after all the stealing…
I GUESS I AM THE RICHEST HAVING 10 ACRES TO INHERIT, A ONE MILLION KUWAHI AND THE LUCKY WINNER OF BAMBUA TAFRIJA
Mr. Mwau has no affliations or relations with Kabogo. Get it right.
Kusota Kulia,,kusota kulia,,kusota kulia

a lot of people i know 2 b very rich are missing…….do better research!!
The richest Kenyan is Manu Chandaria whose Multinational enterprise headquartered in London and spread over 40 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe, the Comcraft group, has a turnover of 3 billion US$ per year, and that is just book value. How much is hidden through Tax loopholes is unknown.
mliniacha wapi? i have three bank accounts. i guess that counts for something even though they only have the minimum operating balance. LET MOI BEAT THAT.
Good wealth is good but always remember to give back to the society for u to be remember when you die as death is inevitable if i have more than what i have i could in much contribute to society and just wish to be remembered for what i did with my money to the society rather than the money i banked in my accounts
what about fenil patel… wananchi
kila mtu atengeneze pesa yake! wacha hii mambo ya kusema sema…furani wa furani
Guys,
Surely Mr Naushad Merali is worth more than a mere $10 million? What with his various companies he has floated on NSE and his foreign businesses? Someone must have more info on this guy?
Cmon man!!!!!!
I think a serious Kenya Rich List must have in it the following names in no specific order:
1. Nicholas Biwott
2. Philip Ndegwa Family
3. Joshua Kulei
4. Kenyatta Family
5. Moi Family
6. Jeremiah Kiereini
7. Samuel Gichuru
8. Njenga Karume
9. Simeon Nyachae
10. Naushad Merali
11. Abdulkarim Popat
12. Chris Kirubi
13. John Simba
14. Jared Kangwana
15. Charles Njonjo
16. John Michuki
17. Kamlesh Pattni
18. Raila Odinga
19. Mirabeau da Gama-Rose
20. Peter Munga
21. Stanley Muchiri
22. Jimnah Mbaru
23. Nginyo Kariuki
24. S.K. Macharia
25. George Saitoti
26. William Ntimama
27. John Keen
28. Ephraim Maina
29. Nderitu Gachagua
30. Karanja Kabage
31. Peter Kuguru
32. Moody Awori
33. Lalit Pandit
34. Manu Chandaria
35. Maganlal Chandaria
36. Tabitha Karanja
37. Vimal Shah
38. Thiagarajan Ramamurthy
and so on …
Moi is worth $12 billion, he bought $2billion worth of propertes in Germany in 1989, when the Berlin Wall fell, only the 3 hotels in London are worth over $1billion, Phillip Moi owns the Hyatt in Portman Square, London, formerly the Churchill Hotel, it has 1000 rooms, and per room it is worth at least £500,000, this is where the Goldenberg money went. Moi has trading screens at his house in Kabarak, where hundreds of millions of dollars of currency and commodity trades are done on a daily basis, Merali helped him set it up. Merali is worth at least $100million. Somaia worth minus, it was all Moi’s money. Pattni is also worth nothing, it was all Phillip Moi’s money, Grand Regency was his commision for stealing nearly $1.5billion, and even that was taken away from him, he was a “houseboy” for Phillip, I know him quite well. Biwott is worth more than $1.5billion, and Kenyatta Family the same. Kibaki is probably around $400-500million. I know all this because I was close to Moi’s son, thankfully I refused to do business the way he wanted me to, I have enough of my own money and dignity, without having to resort to stealing or acting as someone’s briefcase carrier, that is where family dignity comes in. I have not come back to Kenya, due to the corrupt practices, although I was born there and love the country and people.
what of the odinga’s,kimunyas,ruto’s(golfers)?
there are other rich people like vimal and nitin as well
man…please take your “pure guess work” elsewhere…!!!!!!!!.you are talking DOLLARS HERE!!!!!!….EVEN PEOPLE LIKE JAY-Z.50 CENT AND P.DIDDY COMBINED DONT HAVE 1.5 BILLION DOLLARS COMBINED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…..thats exaclty 124 trillion KENYA SHILLINGS!…honestly, get real…..you cant tell me moi has 124 trillion kenya shilings!…i know this people are rich..but dont exaggerate!!!….
Alan:
People like Moi don’t deal with Kenya Shillings. They deal with dollars. Did you read the Kroll report, which I attached above?
I recall watching a BBC interview with uhuru kenyatta where he was specifically asked how much his family was worth and he painfully managed to mutter out the words: “oh…about $10 million dollars”, which was a complete lie. It’s probably 40 times that amount.
Read the Kroll report above. You’ll be astounded how much money these people have stolen.
Hey people Simeon Nyachae is the richest man in Kenya. I know this coz I have done alot of research on his wealth. From a humongus tea estate in Mozambique, A big Unga Factory in South Africa, a 200 ACRE Ostrich farm in South Africa and am not even mentioning the Kenyan Companies including Kenindia, I&M BANK Building,Credit Bank, Forex Exchange,Half of Kisii Town, the estate spanning from Nakuru court house all the way to pivot Hotel in kenlands, Almost all of Sotik Tea and its factories, a pineaple factory and estate in thika, Swan Industries, Kabansora Millers, Sansora Factory and complex; and so many other companies both inside Kenya and Outside.
Most of them are thieves, with wealth acquyired unfairly? Where do you rank John Haron Mwau?
what about bay yusuf??? I mean the guy owns 500 trucks moving all around east africa…
You guys get serious. We have majamaa who made their money kihalali.Wachana na hao politicians.guys like Paul Ndung’u are a perfect example.Find out more about this guy and his other partner who worked with the UN na mtashangaa.Na mwache kulegalega
I am the richest coz i own three quaters of all the kenyan problems. PIV – poor innocent victim
I Think harun mwau is the richest as i av all the grounds behind it.
no.1
The whole of kenyan land belongs to Mwaus Father .
NO.2
Mwaus Father had shares in both UGANDA and TZ
NO.3
Mwaus Father has a TOTAL of 30MILLION CHILDREN
Where do you place Stanly Githunguri and Njenga Karume.in less than 40yrs
these two Kenyans have managed to accumulate about ($ 50 million)
with the least education you can think of .smb help ,where do they get even such knowledge to steal if they do.
Hi
its nice to see that the new programme to introduce internet into mental institutions including mathare has really taken its toll, the person who said that moi is worth $12 bilion is trying to pull a fast one on us, if u go to forbes.com, the 12th richest guy in the world is worth $11.5 billion, so unless you are trying to tell us that moi is the 11th richest guy in the world, u must be crazy.
i dont want to say that i may know who the richest guys are but i believe the moi’s and the biwotts must be somewhere on top of the list.
let me say of those i know, first of, kabogo’s wife is harun mwau’s daughter, i know it coz i know the oplitician personally, and secondly, his choppers are not leased, i have seen documentation of certificates of airworthiness of those aircraft and they are all kabogos. they are even registered under his name, and they even have kenyan aircraft registration numbers, u cant lease a plane from s.a and give it kenyan numbers.
the dude, as per my approximates, must be worth close to $ 800,000,000 (eight hundred million)
ama?
So All who say the know these people personally i believe are liars..
Secondly
This is for # ti-kwenda-gwakwa
I believe you have no idea to what you are saying, Kabogo’s Wife is not realted to Harun Mwau aka The BOSS, i know this because i am a dear friend to th Kabogo’s and Mwaus.
Now, don’t you think as sensible adults we should stop bickering around like old ladies on how the world is cruel, and start using our heads.
I think this list whether genuine or not is all a clear explanation of what is going on in our beloved country.
I have been looking and rich lists in America and Europe and if you compare them to ours you will be surprised to learn the obvious difference.
In America and Europe, the POLITICIANS dont even make the top 200 on the rich list, but have a look at ours, Its bloody full of POLITICIANS.
The only explanation I think is our MWANAINCHI money is what is making our POLITICIANS rich.
Kubaf!
##@#$%^^%&(
@ Fam you are very right…..but everything comes with a prize tag….siku yao itafika tuu.
MUTEVU PETER: Most of them are thieves, with wealth acquyired unfairly? Where do you rank John Haron Mwau?
I Think he is the sonko among them
THANKYOU
KIVAYA
i could say am doing ok..living the kenyan dream…self made millionaire who gets the opportunity to freely and patriotically enjoy my money..unlike some of my pals who are always turning their necks wherever they go!! hell!! they don’t even get the chance to peacefully enjoy their money..either way its all vanity…it aint that am going to take all my money with me when i die… the moral lesson here is be satisfied with what you’ve got as long as its enough..
People, people…some objectivity and possitivity here. Other countries have Rich Lists, why the hell can’t Kenya? The richlist will serve as a foundation that will determine the character of money makers through kenya’s history. Obviously the first post independence guys were politicians but i think political connections, land, parastatals and the stock exchange will diminish as possible avenues for catalytic wealth creation. I believe the list will evolve over time to bring in innovators and clear cut entrepreneurs. I forsee this list being as inspiring as the Forbes List, the Asia 1000 Rich List and many similar ones.
C’mon, lets stop bickering about who got what where and start coming up with the list. I for one believe that anyone with less than KES1bn will probably never end up in the top 1000 in Kenya.
Back to work, y’all!!!
LOL….manu chandaria is worth only $10m….that is like peanuts….just all the properties he owns (around the world) alone is worth over $150m!
I think this estimates have no basis whatsoever…..You cannot just value people at the top of your head!
Our politicians are our celeb’s…thats why they make the news daily…as for how they mostly end up with the cash….power politics=political appointments=parastatals & government senior positions=control as to how budget resource {budget–over 600 Billion} is to be spent and thro which companies tenders. thats how we can explain guys who have been politicians since the 60’s, who have never worked for any public or private company yet they are now worth billions……..Their is a catch….thro the bible or other Holy Bks and the laws of nature this resources will not pass thro to the forth generation of this “crooks” . Having been mature in the 60’s and with toi’s then, their forth generation kids must be in their teens or mid to late 20’s and those resources shall now have to go back somehow….if u are a decendant make your own cash otherwise you are bound to suffer in many ways …love..health etc.. or setup charities and give the needy ..IDP’s min 10% of whatever u have inherited. As for us who are not part of those doomed offsprings be prepared to own a piece of the wealth by being smart upstairs and work hard. dont be tempted to go their way. this will surely happen in our times. Other countries ie the states or older states had this kind of people and as stated above they offsprings are nowhere now. infact some of the ones who stole the most in the 60’s are now suffering in Debt. come join me in creating a new force…an equity fund and we make our clean cash that can be maintained thro time…www.eastcoastkenya.blogspot.com
DCL: C’mon, lets stop bickering about who got what where and start coming up with the list
Why don’t you start by creating this list? who do you think should be on it? and remember, we want clean money.
well well well talking of kenyan rich families or pple, think is way, all around the world, the list of richest pple are normally politicians, eg. at the States, Bill gates was never a senetor, Trump, Oprah, the darlings… the list is endless, ranging the Bush family thier happen to be not published. What this means is that, Kenyan leaders took your chance, you childrens education (by keeping reducing teachers pay), farmers yeld but kept the top cream to themselves. richness is not everything if you fear God (i am not saying it is bad to be rich, but get it the right way) therefore, i can not view Kenyan list of richest pple at any time. promises, promises promises but no where to run to but thank God.
God bless Kenya
You people are not serious.what about the famous five i.e george muhoho, joe wanjui, eddy njoroge, nat kangethe and michuki?kibakis inner circle they run this country.ever heard of transcentury investment co.?as 4 kabogo n harun mwau,we all kno kabogo is married 2 mwaus daughter n that is hw he entad the game!no doubt kabogo is a made man,and he is FILTHY RICH, but the no. 1 kingpin is ali punjani of mombasa.he donated 800 million 2 kibakis campaign n he gambles 5 million a night!do the math!plus he is only 34yrs old!
Gochino:
Eddy Njoroge appears to be a noveau riche. A guy who has really made the bulk of his money AFTER Kibaki came into office. Njoroge must really be connected because now he has appointed himself chairman of the NSE!
Who is Nat Kangethe and where does his money come from?
Someone needs to investigate transcentury investments. Those guys are literally milking the country.
They’re a lot of other people with money whose names will never be publicly known unless of course we name them here
Alan I am just curious at how you arrived at the figure of Ksh 124Trillion from mentioning US$ 1.5billion. If you multiply US$12Billion with an exchange rate of 1$ = 80Ksh you get Ksh 960billion. It is possible that this guys could have this money. Remember even the Forbes list is not completely accurate. At the time of his death Mobutu Seseko had US$ 6Billion. With a much bigger Kenyan economy Moi could indeed have that much. Though I suspect it is more like US$1.2billion.
Gideon alone is worth like $700 million dollars according to wikileaks and the kroll report.
Kenyatta has said his networth is about $10 million, but I don’t know if that just includes cash and not all the properties.
Biwott is probably sitting on a good $500 million dollars if not more.
What do you think about Nelson Muguku, does he fit to be in this list?
Seek he first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you!
We all go through life not realizing what God’s purpose for designing us….those who make the millions you talk of and give them away – have figured out the purpose of life (eg. Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, etc). Those who made that money legally and fairly – will be blessed even more when they give and use what they’ve been blessed with wisely.
God wants us to enjoy life in this world – but through discovering the purpose he has for us. No matter what religion you are – you are more blessed by giving. Remember you cannot leave this world with this wealth! But you can surely leave your family with curses and generational issues, even if you’ve left them with your wealth.
Discover your purpose in this world and you will not only be happy but eternally successful!
Your estimates are wrong Moi alone is worth 5 billion us dollars check the Kroll report on wikileaks google it .The Odinga family about $ 4 billion dollars remember when he was the Energy minister he cut deals with Libya and Saudi Arabia to buy Petroleum products at discounted prices then sold them in Kenya .In my honest opinion there is no self made Millionare/ Billionare we call them “Madmen” if the are there its only 1%.Show me a rich man in Kenya and i will show you his political connection /corruption /what he stole, you get the idea

I was reading business week and came across with kenyan born billionaire(yes in dollars) and I was shocked. I’m pretty sure you will to.
Fisher Island, Fla., and Troy, Mich.
Bharat Desai
56
How’d he get so rich? Desai is the co-founder and CEO of Syntel, a multibillion-dollar information technology company headquarted in Troy, Mich. The Kenyan-born, Indian-educated Desai was one of the early technology outsourcing leaders and divides his time between Troy, Fisher Island, Mumbai, and Syntel’s new 1,800-acre campus in Pune, India. Desai has a fortune estimated at $1 billion.

there can be no list of richest kenyans without mentioning one Jenga Karume, the richest man in central kenya.
Most of these kenyans are rich through grand theft.Even kirubi the supposedly private businessman
this should be called the list of the luckiest thieves
Roy;
That’s an interesting catch. It looks like Desai and his family fled Kenya when he was 11 for India.
According to this link, his father thought that they’d be trouble in kenya for Indians once africans took over the country at independendence and he decided to move his family to india.
I don’t know if his father was just a racist or if he was smart. I think maybe a little bit of both.
given this background, I don’t know if he is really kenyan. He is a u.s. citizen and probably has indian citizenship as well and he grew up in india, not kenya.

Merali is way more richer than that, he made $20,000,000 from the transition from Kencell to Celtel alone, how much do you think he made when it changed to Zain? and now Zain is about to sell. and the Kenyatta’s! way more money than that
Sheer waste of time! Mkijua mtado wat? Get a life people!
helooooooooooo
most of all these rich guys are just kikuyus i wonder… u meant other tribes dont make money?
Merali $10 mil???
Not quite.
He made at $25 mil when he bought Kencell from Vivendi for $25 mil and sold it to Celtel $50 mil, all in the space of an afternoons work.
Haiya wasees iko nini… wahindis and jungu kenyans are missing from the list. Kwa mfano are the Leaky’s kenyans? what about kina Sarit Center, I&M wasees. I know kama mdosi anaishi Karen and he doesn’t feature in a news scandal there is no way the guy is rich. huh?! Nasikia kuna wakenya wako na mall huku Mneapolis, na wao Je?
U R the biggest fool to publish those figures.
they r very small, it seems like u have not seen money in your life.
i am one of the very rich guys compared to those figures, and i know over 100 people that are much richer than me.
but definately, kenyatas family is the richest in kenya, its got a lot of wealth in 1st world countries.
moi’s family is also very rich, he owns the largest farm in Western australia. $1.2billion is just close to its value, imagine the wealth in kenya.
people kenya has a lot of money, the best way to make it is thru production of agricultural goods.
land is very cheap, start farms u will b rich in a few years. this will drive out food scarcity and also create a lot of jobs.
dont be lazy start 2day but u will never make it to where i am 2day as i will always be a miles ahead as i am expanding big time.
kenya’s rich-list combined is just about $50B,since these guys indulge in incestous biz deals, the money circulates among them, making non of them overly rich. that explains why they all need one other politically.
yaani in short, kenyans are talented at making money grow. Why don’t we emulate these people and improve our Kenya so that those poor jamaas who can’;t accessa comp. wacha internet, may learn from us?utajiri here comes I !na wanawake hatuja represent kwanini?
nyiiiinyi ni pumbavu maviiiiii ya kuku?
Kenya being a developing country,we have come far. with the presence of sub-melitia groups like;MNGK,Kamjeshi, chinkororo, sungusungu, and many more,no one will like to be on sportlight about wealth. No wonder people like Amos Wako are keeping money in foreign countries.
up coming entrepreneurs like the Bridges Family are an example how to earn money honestly through smart thinking.
All this people will live their money here…..If Jesus left money and Died…Who are you…Thieves…U stole our money…Sisi wote tutaingia kwa mchanga…Mshindwe…….
For those who think that making such a list is a waste of time, think again. This is the way to go. When we know who owns what, we can ask questions of how they got it……plus its inspiring!
Great work Kenyan Entrepreneur
Google: Kenya’s ‘Silicon Valley’ tycoon, Roque Thuo (Definitely Kenyan born and bred!) of RfWel Technologies. Met him at a talk at Harvard Business School. He lives in the richest part of Phoenix Arizona in John McCain’s neighborhood!
All you people are crazy. The first five richest people in kenya are,Moi family,Biwott, kenyatta family, joshua Kulei and Njenga Karume. The others are, philip Ndegwa,Simeon Nyachae, manu Chandaria S.K.Macharia and lastly His excellency Mwai Kibaki. Those are the top 10 richest kenyans.
kindly note kabogo is not that wealthy ,he’s just flashy,10years ago kabogo worked as an accountant in mombasa called tototo, a small women group cloth dyeing help group,he started importing cars after getting loan from kcb ruiru branch and his fathers farm as security,he also stole from that place he was working and they sacked him,at that time he was staying at mukalla house in nyali renting twice is father’s farm was close to being auctioned,he was broke and a friend of his called george used to clear goods for mwau and while in nairobi he made a mistake of taking kabogo along when going to see mwau the next thing kabogo who was still holding a mobile phone form tototo industries the NGO,outplayed george on mwau and mwau started trusting kabogo ,he introduced him to kingways motors and kabogo started clearing for them too,and others .kabogo atole alot from kra by using double checks from oil payments ,and he’s not married to mwau’s daughter he has a long time wife and two sons first born kamau.he is aproxy till today of mwau and thats why you pple think he is very rich ,kabogo even started smoking he never used to,he had a girlfriend called lucy lau who is married now,he is worth about 10m US mostly from mwau’s contacts e.g nakumatt kingsway cfs at athi river and so forth.thank you i know him well we ate together we still do.
Gochino, r u just gassing? We know Kibaki Raised Sh64.8m For Lamu Fire Victims. And then u come along and say with so much finality and authority that Punjani gave Kibaki 800m. Duh!!!
i am shocked at how naive most of u guys r! ati Moi is worth $12bn. from where? u r tossing around billions of $’s as if they were shillings. let’s put things into perspective. lets say moi stole sh. 10bn each year he was president. for the 24 years he was in power, this amounts to sh. 240bn. which is only $3bn! moreover, how could moi steal $12bn from kenya, one of the poorest countries in the world. even sani abacha did not manage such a feat, yet nigeria is world’s #5 as an oil exporter!
eeh!!! what do they do with all that wealth
we have people who have cash,in this country most of your analysis are wrong
GUYSS!! are u serious! this list isnt anywer near smart guessing!!
There is Ali Punjani who aint in the list…corrugated sheets owner, sarit centre.doshi.
There are indians who are multi millionaires….eg ali punjani can buy moi in half a check!! and corrugated sheets can buy ali punjani out of his petty cash!!!
Jamani….Wacheni parapara mobbbb!!! We have people with money and are under ground in Kenya…Guys have money bana…wacha kina moi and keyatta family and kabogo’s…those are simply CELEBRITIES…..
Think in this perspective…Alot know of American Real estates developer…DONALD TRUMP, He is rich and he is known world wide, why? cos he is a celebrity….but he is not even top 200 richest guys in the world…IN OTHER WORDS..AKINA KIBAKI, KABOGO, MOI etc are the rich CELEBRITIES we know, but kuna wasee wako na pesa kama maji ya kisima…
I guess Kenyatta’s family is the richest family in Kenya.

but starting off course is none other than our man mr….manu chandaria…….the dude is worth over $5bn,he has a business empire all over the world….and holding the biggest market in europe ……thats wat we call a real BIG SHOTS…..
following his footsteps is mr…harun mwau…..he is also a big shot…..with his “business”…..u knw wat i mean….the dude is a drug dealer 4 God sake…..or shd we say a drug baron……
even a kid wont give such poorest guess. Those answers given limit information given as to only know those friends of his/her.think as if you know every body.
I think you missed the mark coz these guys have alot to show, alot and bear in mind they have stolen alot from us and by the way, why only politicians?Something missing somewhere?
The are not the only rich I can tell you.We all have alot but no body knows about us and thus great!
guyz guyz guyz.i remind ye of a quote from a guy.’wenye njaa msidanganywe na toothpick’ moi, kenyatta, matiba, kirubi…….all their ‘wealth’ is but a myth.look at trump ,cuban, abramovich….theyre worth just a fraction of wot they claim.and the fuck ‘kama wengine wataingia six feet deep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’
what criteria was used to arrive at this?
