Who Are You?

I want to move away (for one moment) from talking about global economic crashes, devalued currencies, war lords, machete’s and William Ruto.  I need a break.

I want to talk about you — the readers and commentators on this blog.  Who are you and what are you about? And I want you to answer these questions, which I got from Vanity Fair and which always appear at the end of the magazine.  The section is called Proust’s questionnaire and I’ve always been fascinated by the answers people give to these questions.

So, here are the questions and I want you to fascinate me with your answers:

  • What is your idea of perfect happiness? (money, health and good relationships/friendships).
  • What is your greatest fear (death).
  • What is your most marked characteristic? (curiosity).
  • What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
  • Which living person do you most despise (oh dear, they’re so many.  William Ruto, Joseph Kony, Dick Cheney, etc, etc,).
  • What is your greatest extravagance?
  • What is your current state of mind (confused).
  • What do you consider the most overrated virtue? (chastity and all forms of organized religion).
  • On what occassions do you lie? (to get myself out of embarrasing situations created by my own stupidity; to avoid hurting someone’s feelings).
  • What is the quality you most like in a man? (ambition, intelligence, honesty and mental toughness).
  • What is the quality you most like in a woman? (a sense of humuor, honesty and loyalty).
  • Which words of phrases do you most often use? (“ati”?, “very interesting”).
  • If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? (my height).
  • Which talent would you most like to have? (a knack for math and science, which I do not have).
  • If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what would it be? (a rich, beautiful celebrity? yaaah…that would be nice).
  • Where would you like to live? (on a secluded beach in Lamu, but far {enough} away from the Somali border!).
  • What is your most treasured possession? (my mind).
  • What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery? (the death of a family member).
  • What is it that you most dislike? (religion, violence & people who are afraid to express their opinions honestly).
  • How would you like to die? (quickly).
  • What is your favorite motto? (if it flies, floats or fornicates…rent it).
  • Over to you….

This interactive conversation is too much for the shy retiring types like myself. Furthermore, I feel that you will know my vulnerabilities if I answer the above questions.

Anonymity is my guiding spiritual principle.

      Kei O:

You don’t have to answer all the questions — just pick the one’s that are less intrusive.

I’ll help you out and pick my favorite:

What do you consider to be the most overrated virtue?

    3. Kei O on November 19, 2008 at 4:44 am

      KE

I am tempted to answer your question like the lawyer that I am. I tend to analyse these things too much, which may or may not be good for me.

      What is virtue?

My position on virtue is as follows:

One man’s virtue is another man’s vice (and vice versa).

It therefore follows that I tend to be more of a moral relativist. It all depends on the background of the person giving the answer. I can give different answers to your question because I hail from one culture and I live in another. I am also widely travelled and hopefully widely read. I may therefore have different insights to the same issue and be able to justify them.

      I don’t know if I am making sense……..

Since the year is almost over, I will do my reflection. As the prior post indicated, I will leave some things out but will make this my facebook.

Happiness this is an Oprah question not designed for men.

Greatest fear? Hmmm erectile issues but thanks God for viagra

      Marked charactiristic? pass

      4 pass. (women questions)

Most hated? Nobody. I will go with over rated. Maya Angelou

      6 & 7 pass (irrelevant)

8 – I’m with you. Religion takes the cake. Amazing how generations have been conned to believe in some super being, who loves money and yes if you keep holding it in your wallet, he will burn you in an ever lasting fire.

Is 9 a question??? I lie always and often.

      10. I’m no fruit

      11. I love my wife.

      12. Kino. Muthuti. kubaf.

      13. Why would I change now? I would like to be a midget for a day. Look up to everyone. Wait I would have to worry about man holes and stuff but I think the view would be awesome.

      14. I would like to know how to milk a cow. I think it’s a vital skill necessary for future human interactions. If you know what I mean

      15. Oprah and Galye questions – Pass

      16. I will pass until the last one.

Treat others the way you would like to be treated.

Hehehehee you made me laugh there – eti Maya Angelou is overrated. Come to think of it, her voice just drives me mad!

      Kinoo:

These are actually not “fruity” questions. If you read Vanity Fair regularly, as I do, you would see that both men and women answer these questions. They are really questions about your views on life.

On being overrated, that prize has to go to Toni Morrison. Did you try watching the movie “beloved” That was some weird shit. They’re some serious demons rolling around in Toni’s head.

On the words you most overuse: Well, I think you wrote down a very PG-rated version

      Eric:

Thanks for you answers, whoever you are. It’s interesting that you said there’s nothing about yourself that you’d like change. Nothing? at all? hmmm

    8. ciiku on November 21, 2008 at 7:49 pm

@ Kinoo – I actually LOL at your answers.

      @ KEI O – answered like a lawyer!

KP – I may come back and attempt to answer the questions.

    9. WG on November 21, 2008 at 11:13 pm

After Kinoo’s responses, why add anything else? Too funny! I’m shedding tears as I write this from laughing so hard…

    10. kenyanentrepreneur on November 22, 2008 at 3:47 pm

      WG:

Now it’s your turn. Answer the questions. I’m curious about your answers.

      kei O;
why don’t you just answer the freaking questions?!
